I want to highlight two types of sins that will catch us in the akhirah if we don’t repent and fix things in our lives. Firstly, the obvious sins are those where we disobey Allah. Secondly, the easily overlooked sins are those we commit against other people. Simple things like backbiting, spreading rumours and hurting other people with our words or actions. Allah loves us all. So when we hurt another person, we must know that we are hurting someone that Allah loves!

This month, if there’s one thing we should do - it is to seek Allah’s forgiveness and to seek forgiveness from those that we have hurt in the past. We need to take advantage of this blessed time and seriously think about our flaws. Think about the mistakes we’ve made. Think about the times we have disobeyed Allah. Think about the times we have upset other people, hurt them or talked wrongly about them. I’m not saying we need to sit there and become obsessed with those mistakes, but just remember them enough to be motivated to repent sincerely. We have to ask and beg Allah to forgive us for our past sins. We need to cry in front of Allah and acknowledge our flaws, but at the same time see that Allah has the power to turn those weaknesses into strengths for us.
