The little things.
An online friendship that feels like finding a long lost half of yours. A playlist w your name written on it by your friend. Songs that shuffle according to your mood suprisingly. A witty meme that you understand. A polite stranger taking the time to explain you the route. An interesting conversation with your co-passenger about pre-pandemic times.
Your mother combing your hair. An unexpressive father who sleeps beside you and holds your hand. Playing with your sibling. A day without fights.
Good weather. Not necessarily sunny or rainy. But a weather that feels good for you. Maybe the sun rays warming your skin. Or the rain that calms you down. Or even the gloomy winter morning where you can't get up from your bed.
A day of checking all the to-dos. Or maybe where you got out of your study slump. Maybe you read 3 pages of a book. A wholesome show. Caught up with the notes.
poetry is about stumbling across someone else’s words and finding yourself when nothing else makes sense. please don’t ever think poetry is about buying a book and reading every poem and understanding every word and knowing everything about the poet. poetry is more often about a single line than it is about the whole poem. someday you’ll come across a line, read it, feel something unexplainable travel in your nerves, and it’ll stay with you, forever, that is the magic, that is the poetry. it doesn’t matter who the poet is, or if you even know the whole thing, if it makes you feel less alone it is poetry enough. please don’t even force yourself into poetry, it isn’t love (fortunately)

“When two people talk, they don’t just fall into physical and aural harmony. They also engage in what is called motor mimicry. If you show people pictures of a smiling face or a frowning face, they’ll smile or frown back, although perhaps only in muscular changes so fleeting that they can only be captured with electronic sensors. If I hit my thumb with a hammer, most people watching will grimace: they’ll mimic my emotional state. This is what is meant, in the technical sense, by empathy. We imitate each other’s emotions as a way of expressing support and caring and, even more basically, as a way of communicating with each other.” ― Malcolm Gladwell, The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference
"It's such a beautiful thing when friendship suddenly blooms unexpectedly, like a popcorn flower exploding open in your path.."
Just an FYI, I made up a popcorn flower, haha.. but wouldn't it be beautiful if some flowers popped open like popcorn at your feet as you walked by? That's what unexpected friendship is like - eUë
“She wore flowers in her hair and carried magic secrets in her eyes. She spoke to no one. She spent hours on the riverbank. She smoked cigarettes and had midnight swims...”
—Arundhati Roy, The God of Small Things
“Thank the rain, moon and flowers for life would’ve been so lonely.”

#gilmore girls but make it 2020 (part 3)
being in love as an academic
gentle kisses before lectures as they walk you to the hall
slow dancing to mozart, vibing to hozier, & dancing wildly to mother mother
sitting in their lap as you both finish work
zoom calls instead of studying
handwritten letters snuck under dorm doors & pressed flowers hidden in books
imagining their soft smiles as you power through a dull lecture
comparing annotations in literature & workings in mathematics
gently holding them when it gets too much, pressing a kiss to their temple & reminding them of the joy you’ll have after graduation
nicknames after niche & unknown scientists, mathematicians & authors

"And life is too much like a pathless wood
Where your face burns and tickles with the cobwebs
Broken across it, and one eye is weeping
From a twig's having lashed across it open.
I'd like to get away from earth awhile
And then come back to it and begin over.
May no fate willfully misunderstand me
And half grant what I wish and snatch me away
Not to return. Earth's the right place for love:
I don't know where it's likely to go better. "
– Robert Frost | Birches
when Charles Bukowski said "and when nobody wakes you up in the morning, and when nobody waits for you at night, and when you can do whatever you want. what do you call it, freedom or loneliness?"
