Daily Office online resources
For anyone, particularly fellow Anglicans, who may be interested… Last week, I discovered a Youtube channel, The Daily Office Chanted, which regularly uploads Morning, Evening and Compline prayers for each day (5 am, 4 pm, and 8 pm respectively, Eastern Time Zone):
The Daily Office Chanted is a podcast of Episcopal Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, and Compline from The Book of Common Prayer (1979), sung
I've been using Venite in conjunction with the videos for the morning Daily Office at home (I generally wake up at 5 am, just in time for the new morning video to post). These are settings in Venite to match the videos (for the most part), to read along and chant responsively:
SETTINGS:
Version - Rite II
Liturgical Calendar - BCP 1979
First Reading - OT/First Reading
Second Reading - Gospel
Third Reading - [None]
Canticle Table - 1979 Suggested Table
Lectionary - Daily Office Lectionary
Psalms - Daily Office Lectionary
Bible Version - NRSV Updated Edition
Psalter Version - 1979 BCP
Include Gloria Patri in Venite/Jubilate - Yes
Insert Gloria Patri after each Psalm - Yes
Omit Fore-Office - No *
NOTE: There is no Fore-Office with Confession in the videos, and I prefer to begin with the Venite app to pray the Confession first, and only then start the video.
For the options on the Daily Office screen, select the following:
Invitatory & Gloria Patri - Jubilate (BCP)
Prayers (Introduction) - Traditional *
NOTE: I believe only one of the Collects is read, not three.
After the Suffrages is a good place to pause the video for any personal prayers and/or Rosary prayers.
There's a few things that still need tweaking so that Venite and the videos are identical, but as it is, it's close enough to follow along. If anyone can figure out any additional adjustments to the settings, please let me know in the comments! The chanting itself isn't terribly difficult to follow if you're reading the alternate verses in a responsive antiphonal fashion.
With my inclusion of the Confession at the beginning and a few personal prayers and praying the Rosary, it all takes just under an hour's time.
I do wish there were a more traditional (even 1662) version available of the plainchant, or at least a Rite I, but I have definitely found this Venite and video combination helpful.
