It just amazes me how the entire driving force of the drama was Zhang Haixia and Zhang Hailou's love for each other. So while I sometimes wish to see them getting jealous, it also feels like a fresh breath of air when they don't.
They are so secure in the love they have between them that they know no-one else can pose an obstacle. Their conflicts come from questions of morality and violence, but never from any interest in others, because the drama is built upon their obsession with each other.
And people around them notice this too! Which is another point that is so so interesting to me. Zhang Haiqi notices (but doesn't know how to handle it, so she doesn't handle it well). Zhang Ruipu notices (and efficiently uses it in his coercion). He Jianxi notices, as does Haijiao even in that brief time. The unnamed maid at their house in Xiacheng repeats again and again what she will report to young master Hailou (and not Haiqi, the woman who literally revived him), how unhappy he will be, if the servants cannot get Zhang Haixia to recuperate. Zhang Qishan notices and his aide too. Even Mo Yungao notices and is amused by it, until it literally kills him!! And that idiotic hetero couple, Zhang Qianjun and Fenghuang also notices at the very end.
(((somewhere, there is a lurking hopeful fantasy in me that Zhang Qiling also notices when he arrives, and DOES something about it)))
And everyone is extremely casual about it, never questioning their behaviour (except for Zhang Haiqi) which both makes me crack up and smile in surprise.
