RULE 1. the curtains should always stay closed.
or at least, one had to remember to shut them after peeking through. those were heavy and dusty velvet curtains of a rich burgundy color, covering every window in the castle, except for some stained glass ones. the fabric was so thick, no light could leak into the rooms.
the young squire's training started early every morning when it was still dark outside, and at a certain time master camus would ask hyoga to check behind the curtains and see if the sun was up. camus would never come close to the windows himself at that time. once the dawn was breaking through the horizon, hyoga could be dismissed for the day, and sometimes he would push his luck and try to slack off, lying that the sun was already up - or, he'd lie that it was still dark, to stay a little longer. however, his master could always see the truth written on his face with the rays of the sun.
