The Small Things

We cry out to the Lord saying, ‘God, this is all I have!’ and He gently says, ‘That’s all I’m asking for.’

It has to get better… the way we treat each other and look out for each other, it has to get better somehow.

“Remember in the story of the ‘Good Samaritan,’ how three religious people pass right on by the bleeding man, without stopping to help? We love to hate those guys. We assume they pass by because they had no heart. Not true. They were probably just afraid! That was a dangerous area. The man had clearly been attacked- perhaps the attackers were still out there? Or maybe it was a con, and the man wasn’t really hurt. Perhaps he only LOOKED like he needed help, but he was really a terrorist? How can you be sure? So they passed by. The Good Samaritan stopped to help the man, not just because he had compassion, but also because he had courage. There is always risk involved in love. True compassion embraces possible danger to help the hurting. And yes, I am talking about refugees.”

Preach the gospel to your weary heart, daily. When in doubt, when in seasons of sorrow, and when you have nothing left! Speak the truth of God to the parts of your life that need to be resurrected, for when we shine a light the darkness must flee. Beloved, whatever stage of life we are at, we have but to whisper and the King will listen. Do you not know? He is always present, and our very heartbeat is a delight to Him.

Some things don’t last forever, but some things do. Like a good song, or a good book, or a good memory you can take out and unfold in your darkest times, pressing down on the corners and peering in close, hoping you still recognize the person you see there.
