“If anything, Zeus, you’re the villian.”

“Really? What is your truth then, Zeus?”

“You really don’t care that you lack a purpose? That maybe one day you’ll just cease to exist and you’ll be forgotten? Not that it would really be a shame....We may finally be able to get a little bit of peace and quiet around here.”

"It's better than spending eternity as a glorified mail carrier." The goddess paused, tilting her head before asking "And given that those are pretty common now, do you really even HAVE a purpose?"

"Sometimes the truth hurts, Zeus."

aphrodite was entranced by his first comment, so even as his hand took hers, and his lips did their work, she focused entirely on his words. she’d heard compliments for centuries about her beauty, about other things as well, but when ares said them, she knew they were true. they were said for the purpose of receiving something, or with any expectations what so ever. they were genuine, real, everything about him was real, and it made her heart sing, and the nonexistent butterflies in her stomach flutter. she pressed her lips against his in a gentle kiss, her passion just as real as it had been for centuries. “the mortals make me question whether love still exists.” she whispered. “but all it takes is you talking to me to remind me that love could never cease to exist so as long as we have each other, ares.”

“you think too highly of me, peitho.” she replied as she reached out and took her friend’s hand, holding it gingerly in her own. “i don’t know who i’d be without you... what is love without you?”

“Immortality is wasted on you.”

“I suggest a cold shower, Zeus.” she stated to the god. “Because if it hasn’t happened yet, it never will.”

“No, you just need to go back to being the nobody you were meant to be.” Aphrodite mused with a smile. “My poor son. You’d think he’d have better taste. At least you haven’t drug him down with you.”

“he’s twice the man you’ll ever be.” the goddess shrugged. “in more ways than one.”

“I have actually, and, the last time I checked, he wasn’t speaking nonsense. I can't say the same for you.”

“don’t get too cocky now, you don’t hold a candle to ares.”

“fantastic.” the woman replied, breaking the kiss for just a moment. “you know, you’re much more attractive than most of your family....”

“i wonder if people even deserve love anymore...” aphrodite sighed, looking at her one true confidant with a smile. “i’m sure if i could lie here with you forever i could forget everything else.”
