Big Student’s win in Paraguay
PLEASE HELP ME SPREAD THIS, REBLOG THIS. There is no news coverage outside my country (maybe because it was an organized and pacific protest, no one died) and this is sooo important.
Something quite unique for Paraguay has happened, that is a very corrupt man who was the highest authority of the National University of Asuncion (my university, and the biggest university in Paraguay) has been found to have used money from the University in a very corrupt way. Money that was supposed to go to research and paying for professors among other things went to his family and friends. And A LOT OF MONEY, it was not just a bit. This is in an university that sometimes does not have enough for materials, professors etc. Up until now that is not news, the news are that students started protesting, finding people that tried to steal and erase documents and were basically protecting their future. And they have been doing that for several days, students from other universities have been supportive, joining them, as well as some companies that provided them with food and water. And the thing is, that man resigned just now. HE RESIGNED! He was hiding somewhere and now finally he resigned and is going to jail. This is a big win for education in my country and I hope that it means the new head of the University will be a better person. Just searching for a while on twitter #UNAnotecalles you can see that this is big.
An investigation that showed that unprepared people had way too high salaries and “worked” as Professors without having the qualifications or ever teaching at all.
Students took siege of the rector’s building at the University and received a lot of support
Not only from companies, other institutions support and believe in this fight, such as SOMOSGAY, an NGO that fights for the rights of gay people
Lots of students, even from other universities where supporting the students of the national university
And the employees are so desperate to hide the corruption, some are hiding inside the building, burning papers, trying to sneak away evidence, some even eating paper to hide the evidence O_O
Even yesterday they were burning and making documents disappear from different faculties but students are trying their best to protect the truth and still laying siege to the University

But there is no news coverage outside our country, despite how organized and pacifist this protest is, they even clean all the time after them it is remarkable. And despite their big win! This corrupt man resigned! The students won!
