A DOG AND A PLANE REVIEW
A Dog and a Plane is such a gem. At its core, it's the story of two adults who have both been through so much on their own before fate crashes their worlds together.
Toto is wild, bold, outgoing, and full of energy. He's the kind of person who sees what he wants and goes after it without hesitation. Kanit, on the other hand, is elegance personified: refined, graceful, and effortlessly sophisticated. How could these two possibly work together? At first, you'd think it's just another Lady and the Tramp trope, but honestly, those clichés are classics for a reason. To me, they're more like a prince and a rockstar, and I absolutely love that dynamic.
I'm completely in love with this story and the way TayNew are bringing it to life. If you've followed them since their earliest series, you can really see how much they've grown as actors. Watching them now feels like seeing years of trust and experience come together, and I truly hope we'll get TayNew for many more years because their chemistry is undeniable.
I've watched countless series, but very few have made me feel the kind of comfortable, natural connection they have. They're one of the rare pairings whose performances make you feel like you're accidentally witnessing a private, genuine moment rather than watching actors perform.
The only criticism I have is that the story sometimes moves a little too fast. But when you remember it's adapting a much longer novel into just ten episodes, it becomes understandable. P'Jojo is a master storyteller, and I think he's done an incredible job. The series is genuinely funny, even for international viewers who inevitably miss some of the local references. The performances, sound design, editing, and comedic timing make sure everyone can follow along and enjoy the experience.
The romance strikes such a beautiful balance between passion and tenderness. I especially love that Kanit isn't portrayed as a damsel in distress. He may be soft-spoken and delicate in everyday life, but in their relationship he's confident, and Toto is completely devoted to the man he loves. Their dynamic feels playful, equal, and deeply affectionate.
The bathtub scene is easily one of my favorites. As an artist, I naturally pay attention to the little details, and that's what made the scene so special to me. Newwiee gently running his hand along Tay's leg, Tay kissing Newwiee's chest so softly, kissing his head, absentmindedly stroking his stomach... they're such quiet, understated gestures, but they're exactly what make the relationship feel real. Then there's the laughter, the teasing, the genuine smiles. Watching Newwiee laugh like that made me completely believe Kanit was in love.
As for Tay, he's simply an incredible actor. My first thought while watching those intimate scenes was how impressive his performance was, especially knowing how shy he is. But I think that's the magic of TayNew. They really are each other's anchor. There's so much trust between them that filming scenes like these probably would've been much harder with anyone else. I can almost imagine Newwiee looking at Tay and saying, "Come on, we've got this." Newwiee already had more experience with intimate scenes from previous projects, and now he was sharing that confidence with his best friend. And you know what? It worked beautifully. Of course, credit also goes to the director, but TayNew truly delivered.
Even their simplest moments together are wonderful to watch because you can genuinely feel their connection.
Before I wrap this up, I also want to mention Mond and Ryu. I think they're such a sweet and adorable pairing, and I honestly wish we got to see even more of them. I'm a sucker for stories about childhood friends who find each other again as adults, and this one has been really charming so far. That kind of reunion always makes for a fun and heartwarming romance. And Mond never fails to make me laugh with his antics. Every time he's on screen, he brings so much energy and humor that it's impossible not to smile.
I wholeheartedly recommend A Dog and a Plane to everyone. Don't miss this little masterpiece. I know so many people are constantly looking for darker, heavier stories, but this romantic comedy might be exactly the escape you need after a stressful week. Trust me, you'll have a great time, and it won't disappoint.
Oh, and one last thing I genuinely regret is how little support this series seems to be getting from GMMTV. I can see the company putting a lot more focus on promoting other shows, and there's nothing wrong with supporting multiple series. The problem is when the ones currently airing end up being overlooked.
A Dog and a Plane is the kind of series that deserves to reach everyone, in every country. Seeing it become so difficult for international fans to watch, just like what happened with Cherry Magic, feels like such a waste. This is exactly the kind of show that should be easy to access because it has so much to offer.
We all want to enjoy a great TayNew series. Let us in, GMMTV! Don't let this gem go unnoticed.
