Amycus would be lying if he said he didn't care about the ball, if only to get dressed up. The mask wouldn't matter, as anyone who knew would be able to realize who he was by his hair. His hair that he had put up in a bun, just so it wouldn't get everywhere.
He and his sister had arrived together, but soon went their separate ways as they both found their friends. Or, as Alecto liked saying, people she tolerated. He had been people watching, snickering over the lower codes acting as if this had been their first time to a fancy event. When it came to the non-purebloods, sacred 28, less was always more.
In a moment, he was able to make out one woman. A woman he had his eye on for a bit now. Anushka Dolohov. Who also worked at the Ministry. Amycus hadn't put too much thought into courting and marriage, but the brunette was almost making him rethink that. She was gorgeous and came from a well-established pureblood family. It would be an-almost perfect match. It just depended on how well she got along with Alecto.
But now he was getting ahead of himself, though marriages in the pureblood world were usually taken care of quickly. Hell, he could have his father intervene and it could be done within the month.
Amycus walked over to her, doing his best to not immediately check her out. Although that was mostly for Antonin's sake. It was just one dance, her brother hadn't need to come after him yet. "Miss Dolohov," he said over the music, giving her a winning smile. "I'm surprised to see not already with a dancing partner."
There were few things Anushka found truly enjoyable or exhilirating about her life in London. Perhaps it was the repetitiveness of her routine or the unfamiliarity of it all, but she had been dying for a little excitement. As far as she could tell, the Black Family Ball appeared to be the perfect solution for what had been ailing her as of late. The event was sure to be one of opulent grandeur, and Anushka had been all but dying to indulge in the finer things that had been notably absent from her life recently. This had been her first opportunity to attend such an affair since leaving Moscow, an event of which had been entirely overdue. Anushka had spared no expense in preparing for the event, and it showed. Sure, the reasons behind the event were suspect at best, but she didnât care.
In typical fashion, Anushka had promptly arrived to Black Manor. Gift in hand, she had promptly made her way towards the hosts to present the item, an item she had procured at the recommendation of the owner of an upscale boutique in Diagon Alley. While such things would be expected in Russia, she was certain this etiquette wasnât customary in this culture. She had been all but instructed by her father to do whatever was necessary to make a good impression, and this would hopefully be a start to finding herself in their good graces. To her relief, it had been well-received, and the patriarchs of the Black family had been entirely complimentary, both of Anushka and her gesture of goodwill.
Now that the matter of her business had been concluded with resounding success, the real fun could begin. Anushka had come to the ball by her lonesome, though she had absolutely no intention of departing in the same manor. It was somewhat disconcerting not having Antonin accompany her, similar to the way he had done in the past. But this was not Russia, and these were not the days of their youth. As far as she could guess, those days were long behind them. Despite her nostalgic yearnings for such things, she was probably better off that way.
Anushka had made her way to the bar and was enjoying a glass of Brut Champagne. As she observed the decadence of the ballroom, others had passed her by, making poor attempts at capturing her attention. That was until Amycus came around. Finally. A man whose company and physical appearance she enjoyed in equal measure, something she couldnât say about the others who had attempted to engage her in conversation.
âMister Carrow,â she greeted, her words slow and purposeful as she turned, her body now angled towards him. âA shame, isnâ it? Iâve yet to find a partner worthy of keeping my company on the dance floor tonight.â Her trademark smile highlighting her features, Anushka took another step towards him, closing the already small gap between them. âBut then again, this is the first Iâve seen of you this evening. Think you can keep up?â
