There is nothing shameful about my body. There is something wrong with a society that tells me that there is.

Hear me out. I hear the arguments all the time about how we need to destroy the idea that sex and gender are binary, and honestly, I normally hear these arguments from people in the LGBTQIA+ community, specifically of the trans variety. They just love to pull out the “intersex card” to prove that gender exists on a spectrum, like gotcha! And it does, but the binary is required for the spectrum to exist. On one end you’ve got fully male, with the opposite being fully female. If you didn’t have these binary bookends then your arguments that you so rudely pull intersex people into wouldn’t exist, because there’d be nothing to measure against. There’d be no standard for male/ female genitalia/chromosomes/reproductive systems, so therefore there’d be no noticeable ambiguity that intersex people bring to light. So, all those people out there screaming about how the binary doesn’t exist, and acting like they’re fighting on the side of intersex activism by using us as the pawn in their arguments, are actually erasing us in a very insidious way.
