Today is a deeply horrible and dark day in British democracy as a policy pushed by a select few fascists engaging in a campaign of bullying, sexual harassment, lawfare and institutional capture have pushed through a policy that the vast majority disagree with oriented around harming a tiny minority of the population.

The only solution that will create change is that trans people need to organise. When this guidance was first proposed I wrote the following essay, outlining the specifics of how someone can set up a trans assembly from which harm reduction structures can be formed and clear directions from the trans community can be given to our cis allies, strengthening our political position and creating a pathway back towards being recognised as human beings while protecting the most vulnerable amongst us in the meantime.

I am aware of half a dozen locations where people have started organising towards a trans assembly since I made this, although none of them are in the UK. We desperately need this kind of organising here. We need trans assemblies and we need community formed and focused harm reduction structures.

I have made myself available to people who have started holding regular assemblies in other places to review their constitutions and organising structures and consult with them to get them off the ground, and I may at some point write a followup comparing the results. I am more than happy to help anyone who is putting together a project like this.

It was an international French School w the French flag n all) and the way we were taught French geography was that France has the biggest and largest access to the sea in the world. And they'd show us a map of France and its colonies around the world. It's all occupied indigenous lands. I don't know if they still teach that. I hope not. But they absolutely did until I graduated high school in 2017. Again, I write this on July 21st 2026, for the record.

And the reason we had our revolution in the first place was BECAUSE of the Code Noir, specifically Napoléon's reinforcing of its application. The revolution ended in 1804 but it was brewing for long before that and French aggressions were particularly cruel in the decade before 1804.

That same Code Noir that was finally abolished 2 months ago.

And that same Napoléon (1er) that current French president Macron is rumoured to be a fan of. (Whether that rumour is true or not I cannot say. However I CAN say that there has been a dramatic increase in "historical documentaries" (i.e. propaganda) on French television to paint Napoléon as a French hero™ since that man came in power. Shout out to Secrets D'histoire specifically, bc that docu series is very popular and particularly egregious in that domain and is never out of reruns on international French channels.)

Opened in 1994, the village was created with the aim of promoting tourism in Ivory Coast, in partnership with the biscuit brand Biscuiterie Saint-Michel. It was named "Bamboula's Village" after the company's "Bamboula" chocolate biscuits, which had a black person with the same name as their mascot. The name of the biscuits was a racial slur, dating from colonial times.

Twenty-five Ivorians, including children, were hired for six months to build and inhabit the village. They performed every day of the week, and received pay below the French minimum wage. Dancers were forced to work bare-chested despite bad weather. Performers' passports were confiscated; most lived confined to their huts (the park gate being closed in the evenings), which provided less space than required by labour law. Children were kept out of school, while medical care was provided by the zoo's veterinarians.
