Here’s a one more view of the Adelphi Base I helped design for The Mandalorian Chapter 21: The Pirate. After I had nailed down the design of this building I got to play around with some of the prop dressing, adding storytelling like the scavenged probe droid and conquered imperial flags etc. At this early stage I had no idea what characters would be in this location. My main focus is to design everything around the characters, but the scene would look empty without any people, therefore I needed to put some placeholders in there. Interestingly enough the characters in the room resembles old colleagues from when I worked at DICE Stockholm with the Battlefront games. This likeness was not intentional, it just happened. It’s funny how the subconscious mind work, picking up queues from the surrounding. #Mandomonday!!! Here’s a concept from Chapter 23 of The Mandalorian - The Spies. I helped designing this location on Mandalore, and after the the design was finished I did some action scenes. In this scene the Mandalorians are escaping an ambush. If you look closely you might recognize one or two of the Mandos :) As I always my main focus is to design everything around the characters, I was not involved in creating the new troopers. I’m very thankful for the feedback and inspiration I get from design director @doug_chiang, and on this particular concept he actually did some last minute edits to better fit the story. An apple a day makes you a better artist I say :) Another iPad scribble with the heavypaint app, also completely painted from imagination with no photo reference. I wanted to see how far I could go just relying on what I know about color and light, and apples. I felt slightly handicapped on the new app, since I didn’t even know how to change the opacity of the brushes. Now I know. To make this apple more interesting I added a bite mark, maybe not quite anatomically correct though. I tried to figure out how the light was traveling through that area, with warm and cool shadows, sub surface scattering, thickness of the apple peel, shinyness of the peel. Added some off screen reflection from a window with cool light. Late to the party I’m trying out Heavypaint digital painting app in my iPad. I was trying out the different tools and this scene emerged. All from imagination, no photo reference, because I wanted to see if I could create something from imagination. Mando Monday!!! :) The long hibernation is soon over with the premiere of The Mandalorian season 3 on Wednesday. Here’s some concepts I haven’t posted before I believe, the design of Cobb Vanth’s speeder from first chapter of Star Wars The Mandalorian season two. I helped fleshing out this idea of a reused old pod racer. Here’s the final design, and I also included a little video I shot while visiting The Mandalorian Experience exhibition at Star Wars celebration Anaheim last year (2022). I was really blown away seeing the actual set pieces from the shows I’ve been working on, and also seeing some of my designs in reality was definitely mind blowing. Unfortunately I can’t go to this year’s celebration, which is a bummer since London is really close, compared to LA. As some of you know I live in Sweden.
