It’s 2021, Dan is 30 and Phil is 34. They haven’t been active in almost a month when you see a video posted on Phil’s channel called “The End of an Era”. The thumbnail is plain black. Heart in your throat, you click the video. Phil is sat on the grey sofa surrounded by cardboard boxes. He looks rigid, formal. He won’t look at the camera. “Hey guys, sorry I haven’t uploaded in forever. I’ve been…busy. Packing.” He swallows and shifts in his seat. “You see, I found this great little place just outside the city. Bigger than this, but still cozy.” He takes a breath and looks up. “Basically, I wanted to let you know that I’m not going to live here anymore. So obviously my videos will be a little different, and I’m still figuring out what I can bring and all that.” Phil wrings his hands together agitatedly. “I’m really…really going to miss this place…” he says softly, voice cracking on the last word. “But things just aren’t going to work out. That happens, sometimes.” He suddenly slaps his thighs with finality and makes to stand up. “Alright, well I just wanted to let you know, and I appreciate your understanding. It will probably be a while before I see you again because I’ll be…” He rakes his hands through his hair. “…figuring stuff out.” He takes one last shaky breath, says “Bye, guys.” and walks off camera. A few seconds pass. Suddenly Dan pops his head in from the left. “Oh, and I’m going with him.” he says with a cheeky grin. He holds up a tiny onesie with a lion on it. “We needed more room for the crib and stuff.” You hear Phil burst out laughing and Dan starts giggling and whips the onesie off-camera. He looks back at you. “Bye, internet!” he says with a little two-fingered salute.
