The Antidiogenes Club

In Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories, Holmes’s brother Mycroft belongs to a gentlemen’s club called The Diogenes, where the cardinal rule is that all business is conducted in absolute silence; no speech allowed. I assume there is some connection to Diogenes of Sinope, noted Cynic philosopher of ancient Greece, but Diogenes has any number of spoken quips on record, so the not-speaking thing did not originate with him. He was an outcast and an iconoclast, however; that might be the connection. 

In any case, Antidiogenes was named because it’s a space specifically dedicated to chatting about & supporting each other while writing.

There has been a down tick in participation in the chat recently, so it is possible that you are just logging in when no one else is around. I would recommend using the link that is on our blog page, however, just to make sure there is nothing fishy going on with the link you have been using. I know that IRC link on our main page works because I use it regularly. 

I logged into chat multiple times over the weekend and didn't see any users in attendance. Has anybody else had that problem?

I haven’t heard of anyone else experiencing that issue. Check and make sure that your chat info is up-to-date; we changed servers a few months ago so you may be accidentally logging onto the old server. You can find the new server information on this post. 

Otherwise, it may just be that the times you popped in where odd times for other folks. I wasn’t able to be in attendance much due to being sick, but I know several people were in there any time I did log on.

While there were certainly plenty of people in the chat, we didn’t have many report in with their word totals. Still from those who reported in, it sounded like a pretty productive weekend. Our total was:
