no show will ever match riverdale's freak and its addiction to pastiche. i genuinely think this show is a masterclass in intertextuality. it plays with already established tropes, motifs, it draws on works of fiction and conventions - every character is a reflection of a different genre and they clash and merge and mirror each other and they literally have a whole season of dark academia staging wherein donna tartt's riversona contrives a convoluted conspiracy to kill jughead on the ides of march and frame his polycule for the murder, only for them to fake his death and hide him away in the infamous sex bunker
