"It’s a good day for coffee. If my regular place wasn’t closed.” He tended to be a very grumpy man when coffee wasn’t a part of his morning routine. He pulled out his phone, scrolling through his Yelp suggestions.
"Coffee is for the weak." Anthony said, granting Sebastian a smirk as he brought a flask to his mouth and tossed his head back to take a hearty gulp . He'd blown the board meeting his father had planned earlier that morning--daring to test the waters with his old man after a disagreement. And now, he was in a "testy' mood all round. "It's five o'clock somewhere." He said, giving Sebastian a shameless shrug.
thestaceyking:
I can’t sleep. I feel like I should probably find a way to fall asleep or something.
"You know sleeping pills were invented for a reason. Pair it with a glass of brandy and you're sure to even make up for all the sleepless hours you lost."
"Well ain't you just the cutest guy I've ever laid eyes on."
Anthony raised an eyebrow at the blond who'd addressed him. He grazed his own eyes down the length of her body before granting her a smirk. "You're not so bad your self." He said with a casual shrug, as he settled into his bar stool.
What the bloody hell is that?
"I have heard many things about the woods, but I’m one who thinks seeing is believing." She told him. The brunette didn’t exactly want to see some of the things she’d heard, but she couldn’t just assume they were all true. "Then why do I keep finding you out here?" She threw at him with a smirk. She new it wasn’t ideal, but there wasn’t much to do in town now days and she liked some peace and quiet. For a while though she’d been to scared to returned to the woods, in fear of being attacked again. Though after some time past she found herself here in the woods anyways. As Anthony turned back to the cave Emily let her gaze follow and noticed the small amount of light. "Maybe someone is in there shining a flashlight, but I doubt that since it’s not moving." She thought for a moment, now puzzled about what it might be. "I wouldn’t advise going in there though, it could be some sort of trap."
Anthony smirked in response to Emily's suspicious remark about why she kept finding him out here. "What happens in the forest, stays in the forest, Emily. If I told you, I'd ruin the mystery." He said to her with the intent to tease.
Emily did have a point though. There was no telling what that odd source of light in the cave was. And after what had happened earlier this year, he'd been wanting to take a few more precautions. Though his more reckless nature was certainly goading him to live a little. "I suppose you're right. How about a walk back to town then?" He offered, turning his back on the cave so that he was better able to see her at this vantage point. "Hopefully this time there won't be any accidents. That is if you're ready to head back into town."

"Get that thing away from me NOW!"
She gathered her supplies and made to leave when Anthony grabbed her again. She was used to it by now; this constant game of cat and mouse between them, and didn’t so much as flinch at the gesture. Instead, she chose to enjoy the moment and her small victory, hoping his bruise would flourish as a reminder, and letting herself smirk when his gaze dropped to her mouth.
"You want to get even, darling, I get it." She spoke dismissively, tone light as she wriggled her arm free of his grip. "Well I’m sure you’ll try…” Meredith added, tone condescending as she granted him a smile. “Until then, you might want to work on ducking to avoid flying objects. With your reputation, I’m sure it’ll come in handy.” She stepped back with a wink, knowing he’d grab her for that if he could, and put enough space before he could try. “Later, sweetheart.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Get that thing away from me NOW!"
She let out a laugh at the bitterness in Anthony’s words, keeping his jaw between her fingers and applying just enough pressure to make sure he’d feel the ache. It felt good after how he’d shoved a freakin’ serpent towards her while she’d been stuck in a tree in order to avoid that very reptile.
And her amusement only grew when he leaned forward, slate-coloured eyes pinned on hers, instantly ready to throw back the taunt. If anything, Anthony only made vengeance taste all the sweeter for the fact that he was always so quick to react. She knew she could count on that - on his pride rising like a viper, ready to strike at the slightest offense. “Look at you, Anthony… Finally figured me out, did ya?” She tutted softly before her lips pulled up into a characteristic smirk. Meredith gave his jaw a pinch as she leaned up, voice dropping to a whisper. “Twenty-two years… Took ya long enough.” With that she let go, turning to retrieve her art supplies against the base of the tree.
He didn't quite know why that laugh struck some inner chord with him. It had just the right amount of wickedness in it, and just the right amount of bitterness. Anthony watched her keenly as a vivacious grin bloomed on her lips and she sarcastically credited him for figuring her all out. That he wasn't so sure. Meredith had proved herself with all her antics as one not to be underestimated. She was unpredictable. But it did give him thrills to anticipate her next move.
Anthony caught her arm as she rose after retrieving her art supplies. And as he did so he jerked her against himself and drew his own face but a hairline away from hers. "You know me well too Meredith. Enough to know I like to return everything I'm given." He remembered telling her once that a Harrison paid his debts better than a Lannister did and smiled recalling the memory. His eyes fell for a moment to those ruby lips mere inches away from his before locking once more with those enigmatic eyes. "And this little bruise right here, you're going to pay for it my dear." He muttered, giving her a sadistic little grin.
"Get that thing away from me NOW!"
In seconds, their expressions were completely reversed. He was the one growling, a livid expression etched into his devilish features, while Meredith was the one harbouring a cat-like grin. Feeling absolutely no remorse, she jumped off of the tree, landing with a feline’s grace in front of him.
"Oh no, sweetheart…” She replied, taking a step forward and flinging out one arm to wrap it condescendingly around his shoulders. Her free hand snaked up to his jaw, fingertips pressing cruelly against the bruise blooming there. “You’re exactly what I was aiming for.”
How the fuck had that happened? Just when the fog clouding his brain dissipated after the blow he'd taken that had caught him squarely on the left side of his face--he was suddenly the mouse caught in the paws of a cat. It struck him by surprise to see her pounce like one. "Admiring your fucking handiwork?" He grumbled when her manicured hands with the deadly red-finger nails grated against the side of his face.
His pride had him speaking without thinking. It was that devilish smile of hers--it goaded him. And made him want to resist submission. "Well well well," he murmered, voice low, his eyes found her enigmatic ones that seemed to catch both the shadows and the bright rays of sunlight from this angle. Both were fighting for a place in that golden halo that rimmed her pupil. "I knew you were a sadist deep down inside."
What the bloody hell is that?
"I lived in Bethnal Green for almost six years." The young demon failed to elaborate on the point she was making by referencing her previous home but to anyone who had been anywhere near the London borough it made complete sense. Though the actual levels of danger in the area weren’t too bad it was still considered a pretty risky area to live in by all accounts. Somehow Alicia felt that just living there helped to raise her status as an expert in self defense. It seemed that her companion was keeping his tones hushed as he spoke but the young demon saw no point. Whatever it was, it wasn’t stupid enough to let itself be stalked.
"Oh I’m always excited to find out what crazy shit goes bump in the dark. Even more so when it leaves behind creepy footprints." Alicia began to follow Anthony and the footprint further into the woods. The thought of getting lost in the dark forest somewhat unnerved her but she would never forgive herself if she allowed her will to live to get in the way of her curiosity. "Where in God’s name is he even heading to? This is all just woodland."
"Where the hell is a Bethnal Green?" He asked, immediately when Alicia revealed that tidbit with him as if it explained why she seemed to appear so apt in terms of defending herself in combat.
Anthony smiled in mild amusement as he followed the track of large footprints, pausing to give Alicia a look when she said she loved finding out what shit went bump in the night. "Well then you might be in for a treat doctor." He said as he continued walking forward. "We're about to find out where these lead." The woods seemed to become even darker at this point in the woods. Anthony noted that the prints looked to be made by large heavy utility boots. And then suddenly, the footsteps disappeared from the ground. But when he looked up from the ground only to find himself standing a few feet away from what appeared to be a small log cabin, Anthony had his answer. "Fucking creepy cabin in the woods." he muttered. "My guess is whoever it was is in there."
What the bloody hell is that?
"Why so concerned? Scared I might catch you doing something out here?" She asked in a joking tone. She did think it was odd they seemed to meet here more than out in town, but she wasn’t concerned. She smiled at him thinking of that first time they met. She didn’t know why he seemed so different now, he was the same man they had just been through more. "I was bored and I haven’t been out here since.." She trailed off and realized she’d almost brought up what had happened at the dance. "..um in a while." She decided to say.
"Because these are the woods? and all things strange and creepy dwell here. Haven't you heard any of those tales the elders in this town like to tell?" Emily seemed to have recovered well since the incident at the Dance Marathon. Her mood seemed to have improved too, a lot. Anthony tore his gaze away from Emily and nodded. "Not exactly an ideal place for long strolls in the evening." He muttered. And yet as creepy as the forest seemed to be, he seemed to be drawn to it for some reason. Though right now his thoughts were focused on that unusual orb of light floating around in the cave. "What do you suppose that is?" He asked, directing Emily's head towards the anomaly.

What the bloody hell is that?
Alicia turned on her heels to face Anthony, dramatically placed one hand on her hip and produced her most confident smile. “I am easily worth two somethings.” …It just depends on what the somethings are. Humans messing around just to scare people would easily be within her powers to kill but there were some things that she would be reluctant to take on. Namely other demons but Alicia was also pretty sure that a demon - or group of demons - wouldn’t bother to tip toe around a kill the way this seemed to. Alicia just wanted this adventure to finish soon and be ever so slightly underwhelming. She would rather find nothing and be able to go back to her comfortably uneventful existence.
"Horror movies aren’t real. I would think that you would know that." For one thing horror movies are total bullshit and this is real life but the footprints in the soil were beginning to say something different. This whole situation was beginning to feel like an episode of Scooby Doo. Next he would be suggesting that they split up and look for clues. "Well at least I have some idea of what were searching for."
Anthony chuckled in response to Alicia's show of confidence. He had no doubt that she was perfectly capable of holding her own in combat. Allie was one of the few women in this town who, despite being a doctor, wasn't built with a petite feminine frame. Still it amused him to hear the note of arrogance. "What? Do you have defence training or something?" He muttered--realizing only after he'd expressed the thought that he ought to keep the conversation to a minimum.
"You never know. A lot of those horror movies are sometimes based on real-life legends and stories." Anthony wasn't a believer in the supernatural--in the existence of ghosts or phantoms or demons. But he certainly did believe that there humans themselves were often capable of all sorts of evils. A grim and cynical thought, he knew. He refocused his attention on the footprints on the ground ahead of him. "Guess we find out where these lead to." He murmured, flashing his light at the imprints of boots on mud as he began walking forward.
An expression of contempt wrought itself into Lance’s features as he listened to Anthony’s recollection. “Disgusting.” Was the choice adjective that came out of his mouth as soon as he opened it to reply. He gave his head a shake, letting out a disgruntled sound as he looked away. “I assure you, no such methods are suggested in the field of psychotherapy, no matter how egregious the subject’s case. I imagine he attempted to convince you it was all protocol?” Lance asked glancing up.
"Pretty much." Anthony replied with a nod of confirmation. "He claimed that the patient was something inhumane and needed to be put down. Or else she would get loose and hurt people." He said rolling his eyes at the absurdity of it all he recalled the memory. "And a whole lot of other bullshit about how his actions were for the greater good of this town--and how I was interfering." River's gun had turned towards him, only a few minutes later when the insane doctor showed yet more signs of loose screws.
"Get that thing away from me NOW!"
"Hurry the hell up!! I don’t have all day!" Meredith snapped at him from above the ground. She narrowed her eyes onto his form, frustrated that he was just standing there contemplating when there was work to be done. Namely, clearing the area of all twelve-inch snakes.
But she soon regretted hoping to see him snap into action, when Anthony grabbed the snake suddenly, and thrust it in her direction. Meredith let out a high-pitched scream at that, practically falling out of the tree in her haste to back away from the hissing reptile. “I HATE YOU!! I HATE YOUR GUTS, I SWEAR YOU ARE SATAN HIMSELF!!!!” She screeched, deciding only one related to the devil would pick up one of his minions with so much abject glee.
There was only so far back she could press herself against the tree trunk though. And there was no way in hell she would risk jumping back down to solid ground, lest Anthony decide to chase her around on foot with a snake in his hand. So Meredith did the next best thing; grabbing her cellphone out of her pocket she threw it with all her might towards the snake.
- Only it hit Anthony instead.
Her reaction was worth it. The curses, the threats, the million "I hate you"s that came from mouth in a quick angry slur. It had brought him back to when he'd been young. This had always been a familiar sort of dance between them--trying to one-up each other. And then retaliate.
But he'd spoken too soon.
Anthony didn't get to relish his moment of getting to terrorize her with snake for long. But it had served as a good enough distraction that he hadn't seen the cellphone that came hurling towards him, until he was literally hit over the head with it. A string of profanities escaped from his own lips on instinct--and the snake fell out of his hands. "Fuck Meredith!"
To her luck, being dropped had manage to frighten the snake as well and it slithered away and out of sight. But the snake was the last thing on his mind now. When he had finally stopped seeing stars he looked up and glared at Meredith. "You have the worst fucking aim, ever!" He growled.
"Really?" Lance echoed, tilting his head slightly as he listened to Anthony’s choice of words. "Would you mind elaborating on what you observed or experienced when it comes to my predecessor, Anthony?" He asked, intentionally using the young man’s first name as a hint that he was asking out of personal significance.
Anthony's lips thinned together in a line as he recalled the memory. "I was in here to do some research about the validity of certain decisions one would make, if they claimed to have a mental condition. For the purposes of a case. I intended to ask Dr. Williams about that. But instead I walked in on what might've been a shooting scene." He said, with some degree of annoyance as he remembered also the extent to which River had gone subsequently afterwards to defend his actions. "He had a gun poised at his patient's head." Anthony added, to give Lance a more accurate picture.
"Get that thing away from me NOW!"
"Are you an idiot or are you an idiot??” Meredith demanded, trying to maneuver herself into a more comfortable position. “You’re ten times its size - it can’t do much damage,” She echoed sarcastically. “-Dumber words have never been spoken, Harrison! Have you heard of scorpions?? vipers? Bullet-ants? Tsetse-flies? Poison-dart frogs? Piranhas?… Idiot.” She grumbled, shooting him a glare deadlier than any the snake could deliver. She tried to tug down her shirt when she noticed his eyes skimming to her exposed midriff before speaking again. “Who cares how I got up here?? Make yourself useful and pave the way for me to come back down, Anthony!”
Anthony rolled his eyes at her grumbles. He pocketed his cellphone--placing it in on the inside pocket of his jacket. At least that way it would be harder for her to reach in the case she did try to get her hands on his cellphone for the pictures he'd taken with them. He wouldn't put it past her to deliver on her threats. But after doing so, he tried to think of a way to get the garden snake far enough away from her. Though, knowing Meredith, she still wouldn't be satisfied, even if the snake was at a ten foot distance.
Perhaps at another age, Anthony would've dealt with the situation much differently. While he was younger, he'd played all sorts of sick jokes on her. Her wrath was almost always worth it. How he missed those days. That same trouble-seeking boy in him, wanted to pick the snake up and bring it all the more closer to Meredith--to taunt her with it. It would most definitely be the quickest way to get her down.
On impulse he gave in to the temptation, and picked the snake up and lifted it towards her. She would kill him.
"Oh come onnn Meredith, does this little guy look like he's a killer?" The snake let out small hiss before darting it's tongue out just inches away from her.

What the bloody hell is that?
"Me too, so I thought I’d try it," Kevin shrugged. His smile dropped when Anthony started asking questions, "Not that I’m aware of, why?" He didn’t like people snooping around.
Anthony noted the change in Kevin's tone of voice when he asked about any unusual activity or occurrence near this bar. He wondered why the bar-tender would have reason to be suspicious of his inquiry. "There was supposedly a mugging near this bar. The culprit got away. I was wondering if any of the workers of this bar may have heard or seen anything."
Lance let out a short laugh at that. “While I very much appreciate the vote of confidence, Mr. Harrison, I daresay there are more qualified asylum deans out there than I. The nature of the job is quite different from what I am used to at the hospital. The skills are not as interchangeable as they might seem at a glance.” He explained with a small smile. “I am only glad we did not need to trouble you or require your or your father’s services for my predecessor’s dismissal.” Lance added, thinking the matter would’ve dragged out indefinitely if it had gone to court.
"As am I." Anthony replied, barely able to suppress the satisfaction from showing in his smile.Things tend to always go more smoothly without the involvement of his father. "Your predecessor had quite interesting treatment methods." He said, recalling that one afternoon he'd walked into River's office only to find him with a gun pointed at a patient's head. "No, I'd say barbaric, is a more apt word than interesting." Anthony did not doubt that there were other equally qualified individuals capable of handling the job, but he wasn't so sure that skills alone were enough to have one hold out in a place as insane as the patients it apparently housed. "Do you have anyone in mind to take on the job?" He asked curiously.
