Discussion week 14-15
In the past 2 months, TikTok has shown a high interest in reverse glass painting. I did my best to look for a specific artist who focuses on this technique, but I found it more interesting that people are making a business out of it! I have seen many small businesses pop up that offer services to paint loved ones, favorite anime characters or anything you like on a clear plastic iPhone case. Just another way that people are doing to expand their skills as artist and have a functional business during these hard times. I attached one of my favorite cases I found on Etsy and below them will be the link to buy one if anyone is interested in buying one!

These are my discordant colors for my collage!
Awesome job, you nailed it!
I looked over my design and decided that the swirly shape would be difficult to replicate, so I switched it for a rhombus. Unfortunately, it looks like the GAC 100 got the best of me. It was difficult to bring the tone of the salmon color down but nonetheless I had a fun time doing this. Pretty happy with how everything turned out
^^^ However, When I was peeling off the tape, the top corner piece peeled off. I guess I left the tape on for too long. Also while I was applying the paint I pressed down and got paint on the outer side of the tape. I believe I can fix this by adding purple on top of it.
PROGRESS OF DISCORD COLOR COLLAGE- color decision
I wanted to highlight the trial and error for figuring out the color I wanted for this project. There are a lot more pictures in my gallery. It wasn’t easy creating my colors as the issue of not enough paint was a huge pain to deal with. Of course by adding more paint I’d lose the color was settled for :(

Reverse painting on plexiglass
“Lofi beats to draw to during the pandemic”
During this pandemic I’ve spent alot more time at my desk. Between classes and assignments this gave me more chances to draw. now I did little doodles and sketches on paper, but I churned out more digital art as well.
My reverse painting is capturing this, and a homage to the “lofi hip hop radio - beats to relax/study to” stream on YouTube. The sketch was digital (of course it was), which I made on a video call with some artist buddies. I left the window in my room transparent . so I could put something in the background later if I wanted. I tried my hand at cel shading but it did not come out as I expected. I used fewer shades and more sparingly. The acrylic colors didn’t quite come out the way I expected them to.
Overall I’ll probably do more reverse painting in the future, and heck I might just make my own frame.
Bro your skill to print the smallest details in your work is mindboggling. I know that if the plexi glass canvas was slightly bigger, you could have gotten the details on your screen. I also like how you portray the light in your room to be shining above you with the lighter hues of the skin on your neck and forearm as well as the lighter reds!
First layer of discord color collage. Had my paint ready but decided to add purple and adjust my other colors accordingly. I’ll come back later to place a second layer.
Above the discordant collage. showing the end result the yellow dried darker than expected.
Below the bags of paint with still wet paint inside of them- around the same tone.
Awesome job!! I like the color concept you created. I definitely will work on making my warm colors a bit warmer so that I can avoid the color darkening when it dries.
Discussion week 11
Milton Avery was an American artist, developing his skill throughout the early 1900s. His use for warm/cool colors portrays a well control of the feelings he felt during the piece was being painted. Good example is the "Gaspe Pink Sky" which shows warmer coolers reflecting the superficial areas that reflect the sunset portrayed. the left side shows a progress area of lighter (warmer) cooler where as the right side shows darker (cooler) colors, From right to left the transition of cooler to warmer colors depicts the feeling that sundown is progressing. Best observed through the transition of the dark blue sea to whitish-blue sand, notice that a light baby blue is found in small cracks of the water signifying waves but also the transition to warmer color. The dark magenta shadow to light reflecting hill and then the red sunset is also a good transition.
The use of color is well recognized in his other work and I think this will inspire the colors I will be using for my collage painting!
B&W Collage
love your collage. I love how u added the 99¢ in the tip right corner
Looks awesome! This collage made me think of the Arizona ice tea drink, would definitely look into the color scheme on the cans too.

Collage project, before and after black and white filter
Discussion
I looked at how to refine a google search to find other artwork that use collage like styles. It was difficult to search up different interpretation of collages, unlike google searching cubism or modernism, so I opened my search to the teaching of this style. I found a teacher from England that made a website of important artist that use collages in their artwork and the comments gave other suggestions. It is fascinating to see different models of collages.
Specifically, I looked at Ben Giles for his use of collages to demonstrate creative and unbound curiosity of the bigger picture. Though some of his work is for commission, looking at his art work alone holds a significant meaning behind them. The piece below, for example, was made for Vanderbilt Music department, but when I first saw it, I believed it to perfectly reflect the mindset I have towards pursing my degree during this pandemic. Isolated, yet continuing to work on myself/skills for my future.
Check out more of his work on his personal website.

COLOR WHEEEEEEL. The inside got a little messy but over all it looks awesome!
It came out well! The size will definitely help when you use it for reference for other painting assignements.
Discussion Post
To explore more of Josef Alber’s colorism, I did research on some of his students from the classes he taught at Yale. Jane Davis Doggett work stood out to me the most. The projects shown above are from an exhibition at Elliot museum 2014, where we observe transparency technique. What's interesting to me is that the curves as well as the converging bold colors makes the wavy effect when you run your eyes back and forth from the midline of the plane!
Also have a slideshow from a documentary reflecting some of Doggett’s work over the years. Interesting how she contributed to the visual designs in various airports in the East coast.

MOMA research post
In my research, I found this oil painting ‘Pilgrim’ painted by a Peruvian-born artist Sandra Gamarra. There is not much about Sandra’s life except for her achievements and the her style to paint is honing on the process of memory formation.
This piece was interesting because the artist is from the country my family is from, but she implements various perception to view this piece. My attention shifts from viewing it face forward to tilting my head to the side. There is so much one can focus on and when you do it feels like that one piece can be a painting on its own. I believe this to be the effects she wants the audience to know when she talks about the process of memory formation. This piece is a snippet of various moments one may see while walking in an art gallery. To recall that day, you would jump around the observation you made from the art pieces hanging on the wall to the people that were in your surrounds.
I hope to see more art work from her.

Added the white and realized I should have placed more medium to make the white more transparent. The lighter tones are pretty difficult to achieve from my picture as there are a lot of medium tones. I decided to use as little white as I could for those areas. My hope tomorrow is to add a bit of blue to the shadows to make the red glaze pop.
