PROTIP from an experienced dev: use 640x360 (or 320x180) for pixel art games if you’re able, because it scales well.

Taking a break for the Holidays, and I’ll also be moving next month to help care for a family member with Stage 2 Alzheimer's.
It was a very unexpected development, but the person who was originally going to help had to back out. So progress is likely to be very slow until I’ve adjusted into as much of a routine as I can get.
That said, I don’t really want to give up on the project because it will be important to make sure I’m still finding time to do what I want and enjoy. Caretaking can be very difficult, and if you fail to take care of yourself as well it can bring you into a very dark place.
So I’ll still be working on the writing and design aspects in a notebook, but art will be on hold for a while so it’ll be hard to make updates that aren’t spoilery or plain/boring.
Unless people want me to fill the void with Pathfinder stories or something. Because I started playing that recently and goddamn, it’s fun.
Less angry eyes, and started on the back-side view.
And on a non-visual front, the first stage has been planned out. Just can’t really show anything on it since I still have walk sprites to get through and I’ve been messing around with Smile Game Builder’s trial mode.
It’s making it really tempting to try something like that instead, even if it means moving away from the one I’m used to.
I was hoping RMMV would have a Mode7 or other 2.5D-like plugin available to produce a similar effect but I haven’t found anything. And I’m not sure I want to invest in an older version (even though they do have such scripts) if I can just switch to an engine built on 3D with lockable camera angles.
There was one that turned it into one of those first-person dungeon crawler cameras, which was really neat in concept, but the demo lagged too much and it didn’t look like the author was still updating it.
If you’d like to help me out so I can afford to put more time into the Bloodclot project, please consider checking out my commissions or ko-fi page.
Nothing to report this week. I had to rest my wrist due to the starting signs of injury. I’ve got a history with tendinitis, unfortunately.
But on a better note, I managed to sort out some healthcare issues so fingers crossed I get coverage for 2018 and can start tending to myself.
Started toying with Margaret’s walk sprite in-between more commission work.
Since I’m expecting most of the settings to be primarily dark and monochrome, it’s designed to fit against pure black, but should still be effective on lighter colors.
I do need to work with the eyes and face some more though. It’s been a challenge to get her face’s style on such a tiny canvas, and I feel like it’s too angry looking at the moment.

Not too stark a difference from the WIP version but I’ve still got things going on.
Formless Margaret will be an alternative version of the main character that can eventually be turned on or off to help solve certain problems.
Margaret’s not much of a fighter, so there’s no combat or battle screens. Instead, getting caught by an enemy pretty much spells your doom. But Formlessness might be able to disguise her or blend in with the shadowy background as a means of evasion.
A pair of recently completed Commissons.
Those comms I mentioned, all finished up.
I’ll be getting back to the Bloodclot portraits now in between some other work.
Some progress on “Formless” Margaret.
Currently in the progress of some commissions which has stalled my work on this, so this isn’t finished quite yet.
Once it is complete, I’ll probably move on to Claire’s portrait.
The first piece of art for my new Bloodclot project.
Margaret is the protagonist who will go through the game trying to recollect and piece together her shattered Identity.
As she does, the player will get to learn more about her and how she ended up in her current state. But at first she’ll remember nothing of herself; emotions, memories, preferences, all gone and forgotten.
Been a while.
Not sure I’ll be remembered, especially after the icon and name change, but I used to make little sprites and bases that were free to use as rpgspritemaker. They still are free if you got them off my old posts, but I’ll moving away from freebies now.
A lot of things have gone down since I disappeared. And it’s made me want to really try to make a living off of art and games so that I won’t have to continue going through it all and can exist on my own terms.
But all the other games and things I’d tried in the past blew up to be too big, too ambitious, and on top of struggling with some mental health issues, I’d just.... give up.
So it’s time for me to learn my lesson. And start small.

someone asked me how to explain how i do galaxies like this a while back
so I finally made this thing where I just sort of, gesture uselessly at my canvas while making high pitched noises of desperation as i attempt to convey something about my pixel art process. so, business as usual??
Gotta love them days when you feel dead, so even though you want to work ya never get anything done.
But I guess I technically got this done thanks to a bit of Halloween spirit.
Off-topic WIP because Pokemon’s on the brain and it gave me a neat design idea.
It’s already been done, saw so with a Google. But I felt like doing my own version of it anyway.
GUYS!
SALE ON ALL RPG MAKER ENGINES!
THIS IS YOUR CHANCE!

After a busy previous week, I finally managed to finish off the first draft of the large-scale female base.
I know I’ll be making tweaks to it as I start working over it, so I’m not adding it to my bases page just yet.
The next step will be designing the three female PC choices for my host club concept. By the time I’m happy with them, the base should be ready.
Still, if anyone would like to try them out, here they are. Feel free to leave me any feedback if you test them.
9 more colorations under the cut.
Finally slapped ‘em together into a sprite sheet so I can get a better feel how to to finish and what to fix. Already a few tweaks visible here.
