If you don't know this I'm not sure how you found this blog but good job I suppose! Mostly just a spot for me to put posts that remind me of Ant (or other characters from our campaign), for me to ramble about him, and for me to post the couple of journal entries I've written for him.

Okay no I need to make this Alt Ant talk a separate post because most of this is not about him. It's about stuff related to/leading up to him but isn't really an introduction to him as a character lmao
For now I'll just continue editing/adding it onto Alt Ant's intro post so it's easier for me to keep track of, but once I get it all done I'll take it and make it into it's own post and Alt Ant will get a shorter post that's an actual introduction to just him
Having to stop because I'm getting upset/emotional about what happened all over again and the (unnecessary, unneeded, irrational) guilt about it is coming back. It's such a good story and interesting stuff that happened, I'm just too In There and the horrors are horroring me. I really should have started with someone else but this guy has been haunting me for two months with his actions and five months with the general threat of his presence lmao

You can't save edits of a post as a draft so the character intro posts will be getting partial updates as I have time and think of things to add to them. I think I'll rb the individual character's post once I finish everything for them? Maybe? We'll see

Sha're is from Kunafa and is Grandpa's new wife. She's cool and strong and nice. Is probably the only reason Grandpa is actually still here cause he might have just withered away trying to get back to Astera so he could get home to Ant. Don't really know a whole lot about her and probably won't post about her very much at all, but I wanted to include her :]

I don't think I have any images of him, but imagine Ant but make him look like the biggest douchebag idiot ever. Flat straightened hair pulled back into a high tiny ponytail/bun with shaved sides/undercut. That's Alt Ant. Just know he sucks so bad and I was filled with rage and incredible guilt for multiple days after we dealt with him.
Turns out Kie (@kienium) did draw him! So here's Alt Ant. Putting it under the cut, which won't matter if you get here from the link but if it's on the dashboard or if you're trying to scroll through my blog normal style, this is going to be a very long post because there is no format to this it's just me rambling.
Warning for this one especially there's going to be a lot of stuff that seems completely unrelated to who/what Alt Ant is, but it all relates and feels important for me to be able to properly explain him.
He started because I had been looking at potentially multiclassing Ant at one point and ended up looking at the different paladin subclasses while I was there. Saw the Oath of Glory paladin and was like "oh that's what Ant's parents would have wanted him to be" (Ant is an Oath of Redemption paladin). The multiclass I had been looking at was paladin with College of Swords bard because there was a character in a dnd podcast I listen to with that build (Cali from campaign 3 of NADDPOD) and she was really strong and cool. But I ended up deciding that wasn't the right direction for Ant but that again. That "optimized" build seems like the exact thing his parents would want him to be.
And so because I am very normal, I was messaging my DM and mentioned that I was thinking about building a level 10 of this Ant (who at the time I was calling Perfect Ant. He is very not perfect and I hate him so he's Alt Ant now). And my DM is scary and said that she might want to see it when I was done because I might be giving her ideas.
Through building this Alt Ant I realized I had been thinking of him in a different way from my DM. I had thought about him like. A version of Ant who stayed on the mainland with his parents to become a famous hunter and was at least slightly aware of the lying and staging that his parents would be doing to make sure that his fights would be perfect to keep the family's public image up, or even actively assisting and playing into the image.
However, my DM said this Ant is "gonna be full in the kool-aid. 100% thinks he's the best of the best." Has no idea about the staging and fabrication of his image that his parents do behind the scenes. He still knows appearance and image are important but that's not an issue for him because he's so good there's no way he could ruin the family image! Which Instantly switched the way I was thinking about him and building him from someone helping with the illusion, maybe slightly despondent or disillusioned with it all (hadn't gotten that far into thinking about that part yet) to him being this pompous asshole who thinks he is way better than everybody.
This was back in early/mid February. Alt Ant just happened last month in June.
In the session we played at the beginning of February (right before I started making Alt Ant, we meet once a month), we fought an Uth Duna and Ant fully almost died. Like she got me down to 0 with one hit, so next hit made two of the three death saves into fails and the only person with a turn between the Uth Duna and Ant was Olivia and thank fuck she has a healing ability because I test rolled what I would have gotten if Ant had to roll the save and got a like. 5. Which would have been a third fail and he would have just been dead. Which is what lead to me looking at multiclassing Ant to try to keep him from dying so easily and so often and also led to Ant having a bit of an internal spiral of his fear of failure.
The next session was supposed to be a chill "beach episode" to recover from All That. But Mav found a skeleton at the bottom of the reservoir that had a bracer on. The stuff we're dealing with is stuff from 1,000 years ago that we learn about through video/audio logs that managed to survive the years and not get corrupted on these arcane tablet things. So through some of the logs we had seen in a collapsed watch tower, we figured that the skeleton was Captain Sailynn who had stayed behind and saved a bunch of people. The bracer said "we do not hold the line. We are the line". We did a warrior's funeral for her and it was decided that Ant would be the one wearing the bracer and then when we were having lunch or something, Ant sees a shadowy figure out of the corner of his eye kind of in the treeline. There are no humanoids in this area except for Kunafa which is in the desert and multiple days ride away, not since everything that happened 1,000 years ago happened. And then when we went to check it out, there were no signs of anything having been there at all. Ant continued to be haunted by this ominous presence for the next few sessions, getting progressively more intense until we got to the session from June.
Captain Sailynn appeared to Ant in his dream and did a "I see potential in you to do what we were unable to do and defeat the Unhallowed. But you are lacking." And then threw Ant into the mind torment dimension.
Ant wakes up and he's back home in his parent's house but is in a nicer room than the one he grew up in (which was still nice, hashtag rich and famous family) and there are posters of the "great hero Ant Mavaraxia" on the walls and a super nice set of armor that looks tailor made and fitted to him exactly. He's got that fuckass haircut of Alt Ant when he looks (he fixes it back to his normal fluffy/curly hair as best as he can obviously). Butler knocks on the door and through Ant kind of trying to subtly ask questions about what the fuck is going on (because Captain Sailynn explained Nothing, just touched his forehead and everything went black and then he woke up there), he learns he has a fight scheduled in the arena for that day and that that's something this Ant has every week. Which the arena is something that Ant knew about but it wasn't usually used every week for a Hunter (or a Hunter team) to fight a monster. During these questions as the butler is helping him get his armor on and everything he asks Ant if he had too much to drink because that is a common problem with this Ant, which works in Ant's favor to be able to be just "a little out of it and confused." At breakfast it's a very weird setup with his parents sitting at one end of the table next to each other and Ant sitting at the other end, they also ask if he had too much to drink when he is confused by some things. Ant just kinda, goes through breakfast and that morning because what else is he supposed to do.
And then he goes on to live as this other Ant for multiple days to a week, didn't give a specific, but it was for a while. He doesn't see anyone he knows, but that makes sense because they would have all gone to the New World with 5th Fleet like Ant did himself. But he goes to the Guild library to try to see what specifically happened with Bobra because if she wasn't on a team with Ant, then what happened to her. She wasn't in the record of Hunters, but when he checked the student records (public info still) he found that this Ant had denied the placement of Bobra as part of his team, claiming incompatibility. And after that Bobra gets caught trying to steal something from the Guild and gets sent to jail so Ant is about to go check and see her when there's a huge commotion down in the port as every ship from Astera (the outpost/city in the New World that the Hunters use as their base of operations) came back all at once looking rough. It wasn't just the ships from 5th Fleet or the usual few ships that occasionally go back and forth between expedition fleets, it was every single ship coming back all at once.
Ant runs over to see what happened and to help and manages to talk his way into helping the healers treat the less critically wounded people. One person did insist on getting his full name and when Ant said his last name the guy said he "better not be doing this for publicity" to which Ant said that if it was for publicity, they would have him going out to the ship that was said to remain off limits until they could contain the beast onboard as he runs off into the medical tent to see what he can do to help and see if he can figure out what happened.
When he gets in there he's helping out for a little bit but very quickly sees the group of Aylia, Cotton, Julius, and Emma sitting in a corner (Aylia says something about Aiden being strong and stubborn so he'll be fine). Ant makes his way over there because he's supposed to be handing out towels and waters at the moment and needed to see his friends and figure out what happened but as soon as they saw him coming they all instantly stop talking and get very defensive/cold. Julius and Cotton fully stand up to block Ant from getting any closer, Aylia is glaring at him and even Emma (who is a sweetheart and is super hard to make mad) was glaring at Ant. Ant awkwardly tries to hand them the towels and is just told to leave them on the bench, they won't even take them from him, he tells them that it's going to sound very fake and performative but that he's sorry for whatever he did and then quickly tries to go back to helping others. But as he's leaving he sees them all close in around Aylia and seem to be comforting her.
Ant goes back to helping and healing and doing anything and everything to try not keep moving and from thinking but also trying to figure out what had happened. While talking to one of the healers in charge of everything he did see that one of the more critical people had the black ooze coming from them that we know is the Unhallowed (they're very quickly taken off to be treated in isolation).
Mira is a researcher from 3rd Fleet and also Mav's mom (Olivia is Mav's dad, his actual dad is kinda a douche from the little bit we know about him). She's the reason Mav was able to get out from the weird bubble thing that makes it so we can't get back to Astera (the reason 3rd Fleet and Grandpa went missing is cause they got teleported here and there was no way back) and it's highly possible she's dead or boogied (they're called the The Unhallowed, but we just call them boogies, and if one is in your head, you're boogied) but no she's actually fine because I say so (we'll probably be finding her next session or at least very soon, very nervous. I have a plan though).
Olivia is a Hunter from 3rd Fleet and is cool and strong and too serious for her own good and so bad at having feelings. She's also suuuuper gay for Mira but once again. Bad at having feelings. And that's coming from the guy who made Ant. Ant at least didn't realize he had feelings so he wasn't doing anything about them. Olivia knows her and Mira both have/had feelings for each other but did nothing about it (many reasons why she Couldn't but still, wouldn't even fully admit they were more than "dear friends" for a while after we met her).
Grandpa!!!!!! I love Grandpa so much. I was DISTRAUGHT for a month straight when we ended a session with Grandpa being in BIG danger. He's known by most people as The Admiral and is/was a very famous Hunter, which started the Mavaraxia (Ant's family) fame, but he didn't like the spotlight and didn't like what it did to the family so he tried to step away from it but his old wife, daughter, and her husband all loved the fame. Grandpa made a name for himself as part of 2nd Fleet going to the New World and went back to the New World with 4th Fleet to try and get away from the spotlight and to try to find the missing 3rd Fleet, but then he himself went MIA radio silent. Fleets go to the New World every 10 years. We're part of 5th Fleet. So Grandpa was missing for 10 years after leaving Ant alone with his grandma and parents. But we found Grandpa and Ant was nervous about it but now is so happy and will not let anything happen to Grandpa. Grandpa also has a new wife (Sha're) and a 3 or 4 year old son (Sabi) who are both wonderful.
Oh I forgot to include. Grandpa's name is Anton, Ant was named after him and I never even knew this or even knew Grandpa's name until we found him multiple sessions in.
Emma is the handler for B Team. She's supposed to just be support and like, toss potions, guide the team, help with knowledge about monsters. However. We (Ant) die so much that she does have to get more involved with the fights occasionally. But she's just our nervous little bunny rabbit of a person. Our DM has described her as being small but then said she's 5'5" (this is because our DM is over 6'). Her and Ant are sooooooooo nerd together.

Mav is. He's a weird guy we found in the woods. Literally. We went many sessions without knowing his name so he was just He or Him (made my Ant journal entries look like the writing of a very religious person with no context for a bit). I'm not writing anything more for Mav now because Kie said a cursed thing at me just now so I won't talk about her son anymore. First art is by her, second art is by @chexxmated
Bobra is my gf's little shithead. Tabaxi so she's kitty cat. Thief rogue who got caught by the Guild trying to steal stuff and instead of going to jail went to the Guild school/training to become a Hunter and is bad at studying because she doesn't care (slept through maaaany of the classes that go over the different types of monsters and how to deal with them) because she didn't think she'd need it but now she's in the New World and she does need it but also she ain't no nerd, that's what Emma and Ant are for. She totally doesn't care about the rest of B Team though and is just here cause she "has to be" and is useful. ART IS BY @kienium (Mav)
