It’s been a while since I posted to the diary. It’s now July but in fact in January Alice and I decided we’d sign up and swim the Hellespont. It’s been 18 years (I know) since I last swam it. Alice was six, she’s now 24! Training began quite slowly. Alice is very busy. Her MA Biodesign final project and show took up a lot of time. But now it’s over we’re training proper! For the last few weeks we’ve been to the cold pool roughly twice a week. Extending from 1.8k (3x10 lengths) to 2.4k (2x20 lengths). We are swimming for approximately one hour. We have five weeks to go before the event.
If I remember I swam it in about an hour, but that would have been quite fast so maybe it was more like 1:15 or 1:20. There are a lot of blogs with scare stories about the event, I don’t remember it being too bad to be honest, but I do remember we had excellent conditions.
If we manage to swim 1:30 at the cold pool roughly twice round week minus two, I think we’ll be fine. I’m feel a bit responsible for her, but I know she’s tough and tenacious- she’ll be fine.
