There are so many similarities between Colin and Penelope’s relationship and Violet and Edmund’s from Violet in Bloom - the novella about Violet Bridgerton nee Ledger. 

 - Edmund is observed eating copious amounts of canapes at a ball, while Violet sits on the sidelines as a wallflower. Colin meanwhile is well known for his love of food and Penelope is, of course, our resident wallflower. 

- Edmund seeks Violet out at the ball and they sit chatting for ages, laughing together, before he finally asks her to dance. Similar to how Colin always seeks out Penelope. 

- The ton notes how young Edmund is to be marrying Violet. ShowColin is also still young to be marrying. 

- Later on in the novella, Violet (at her birthday masquerade ball where Benedict and Sophie meet) hides behind a giant fern listening to her children, right after Colin noted that Penelope was doing the exact same thing earlier (hiding behind a potted plant).
