Sad songs and broken hearts...

I’ve drawn a lot of things lately, but haven’t had the time to finish any of those drawings. Here’s one of them kinda finished, haven’t decided if this is the final design.

Things I tried in life and failed. Today: Skateboarding.

When my sister and I were much younger, we used to skate. I remember that we used to hang out with the boys from our neighborhood and go skating. There were many spots that guys liked to go: the stairs outside of the bank, the ones outside the Elderly Center, the skatepark of course (that was very far from home, so we occasionally went there on weekends or during the summer), among others; and our favorite one was the basketball court in the park between the buildings were we lived. There we had some homemade ramps and rails, and guys from other neighborhoods used to come skate in our improvised skatepark.

I really sucked at it, no matter how hard I tried I always ended up on the floor (the drawing of the girl falling is me, of course), but I had the time of my life trying and failing and trying and failing and...

About a month ago I was talking to my boyfriend, and we came across the question “how many vaquitas marinas are left?” . So we googled it and turns out there are only 30 of them! I was super shocked, to this day I still can’t believe it. After those sad news, I read there are 2,584 endangered species in my country, many of them endemic (this means there is no other place in the world where you can find them). With this in mind I drew some of them (the jaguar, ajolote, kangaroo rat from San Quintín and monarch butterfly), and I’ll make this a sticker to sell it. The profit will be donated to institutions that’ll help keep (hopefully all) them alive. I don’t have much, and I’m still a novice artist, so if you would like to help this cause, you can purchase the sticker directly from my store on Facebook.

Hace un mes que me enteré que quedan solamente 30 vaquitas marinas (que shock! :O ) Después de esa noticia tan triste, leí que hay cerca de 2,584 especies endémicas mexicanas en peligro de extinción, sin contar a la flora que también está en peligro. Con esto en mente investigué un poco más y dibujé algunas de estas especies para generar un poquito de conciencia respecto al asunto: el jaguar, (el siempre sonriente) ajolote, la rata canguro de San Quintín (que por ningún lado pude confirmar si sigue viva o no, algunos especulan que está bien bien escondida y otros que ya se extinguió) y la mariposa monarca. De este dibujo haré stickers para vender y las ganancias serán donadas para ayudar a conservar estas y otras especies.
