you can really tell if sso is the only mmo someone plays based on their reaction to the new zero tolerance approach to cheating

like this is standard practice for using third party engines, other games ive played are even More strict about that so its surprising this has gone on for so long in sso

in final fantasy 14 if you use a third-party tool that allows you to zoom out the camera (something that is very far from being as brutal as changing horse coats and making yourself level 30 and making yourself fly off into the sky in front of everyone) further out to kill a raid boss to clear world first for this boss They Kill You and you get your achievements revoked and you get banned and the director of the game himself comes up to say he’s very disappointed you and your friends used third-party tools and you get humiliated by the entire fanbase. And this is for a UI mod because a player wanted a clearer view of the arena mind you (still bad and considered cheating for raiding), I cannot imagine the extremely radical measures a lot of the bigger MMOs like ffxiv/wow/gw2 would take if they learned there’s third party tools that allow you to pop up non-available items out of nowhere and giving yourself levels and making yourself fly off in the sky in front of everyone to the level of SSO cheaters. SSE is doing the most normal thing ever right now.

so did SSO ban a bunch of ppl (even ppl who were using just reshade) or are the ppl on tiktok just weirdly vocal abt it

Several staff, including one I've known personally for years, have confirmed that reshade, screen readers, or accessibility helpers have NOT been the reasons for bans

They have not used AI, each account has been checked by human staff, and it was shared that 0.5% of players were banned - people claiming that 50-80%(!) are banned have pulled these numbers out of their asses as usual

It's standard practice for large games to ban people for cheating, SSO has been extremely lax until now and it's about time it changed

And as usual the dredges of the community are being the most vocal about this atrocious behaviour from SSO, because they can no longer cheat, even for the littlest things

Aaaand of course there are people claiming it's happening because SSO can no longer get money from people who can cheat to get coats and sc and objects, and definitely not because it can break the game for everyone, or at the very least make it very unfair for the rest.

#people who are SERIOUSLY trying to claim that FIFTY PERCENT of the player base was banned sound ridiculous #do you seriously think THAT many people use cheats? do you not realize sso’s primary demographic is children?#also if you think a lifetime ban is too much you clearly know nothing about how cheating is punished in other multiplayer games #it usually ALWAYS results in a lifetime ban lmao #fuck around and find out
