Assessment 3 - thoughts
The past few weeks have been a massive whirlwind of ideas. Over all I think the group is feeling really excited about this project.
Our thought process started off with thinking about NOW as something of fragility, with almost meditative connotations. We were thinking NOWNESS in terms of yoga, meditation, surrendering to NOW, etc. This sparked ideas on the impossibility of ever capturing NOW as it is forever fleeting and instantly something of the past. As well as the calm that we can feel when we consciously make ourselves present in any moment.
This was all really interesting but we had no idea how to capture the instability and calmness of NOW. So we decided to look into a major distraction- social media, such as snapchat, instagram, trends, etc. We find it fascinating how quickly a headline can completely consume every source of media and within a couple of days become obsolete and forgotten, our attention spans are disappearing and we seem to only be able to focus on something until the next headline is put in front of us. Whether this be related to Kim Kardashian’s robbery scandal, Trump vs. Clinton, War or disease.
We begun to screen shot trends in our phones as a starting point, and realised that this idea although interesting could be developed a lot more.
At the next group meeting we came up with a much more playful solution, deciding to create a new-age guided meditation session, playing with these ideas of insignificant distraction and calmness. It will take place in the form of a youtube tutorial, featuring yoga matts, active wear, instagram and super zen vibes.
We are thinking of using a green screen, voice over, Iphone style pop-ups etc. But much more to come in terms of logistics!
In terms of the 12 page PDF it should end up an abstract documentation of the making of the video, or maybe even a pamphlet in “how to be present in the NOW” sorta thing…
Great reflection on process and ideas
