~ Searching for honest emotional interchanges, therefore extracting the figures from a setting. Frank notes reflecting on the complexities of co-habitation and arising situations.

~ Explorations in juxtapositions and inter-connectivities; visually and contextually, by re-loading ‘ghost-images’ with randomn relativities... what does this bring to the forefront and how do I as documentator respond to these?

I’m investing some time in drawing projects aimed at developing formal skills in order to successfully capture documentary / reportage style sketches in a more succinct and visually clear manner that at the same time expresses gestural expressions and a sense of mood , atmosphere, setting ...

The exercise these sketches are from is one exploring ‘ Short-hand Tone; 1 Decision = 1 Mark’ by ‘slowing the look the look down.’ This is Project 5 from ‘Drawing Projects, an exploration of the language of drawing’, M. Maslan & J. Southern, Black Dog Publishing, 2014.

The project aims at making small marks after careful observation and examining how tone ‘wraps’ itself around surfaces due to surface direction. By scrutinising each small mark to be made, (the marks should be no more than 1 cm long), the drawings should challenge our perceptions and generalisations of what we aim to visually depict, resulting in a more studious detailed and approach and gaining confidence in drawing exactly what we see; not perceive to see.
