The truth is that some women want to start a business, and others would like the safety and security provided by giving control to a trustworthy man, at least for now. Some sex workers want unions, others want an escape route. For feminism to be at all useful, it has to be uncomfortable. It has to include people whom it would be easier to leave out.
“People seem to have a hard time responding to a woman’s sexuality without having the desire to literally touch it. I guess in some ways, sexuality implies that, but I don’t think sexuality necessarily invites someone else to participate. I don’t want people to interpret my work as an invitation to fuck me.” - Inga Muscio
The Ballad of Sexual Dependency is the diary I let people read... the diary is my form of control over my life.
It allows me to obsessively record every details.
It enables me to remember.

Acker was nothing if not a mistress of the contradictions of being woman, a post-punk amalgam of de Sade’s masochistic Justine, virtuous in her enforced prostitution, and his triumphant libertine Juliette. If her evocations of (sexual) violence against women make her, in some senses, a precursor of millennial feminism, her plaint or critique was less aimed at individual male malefactors than at the system of patriarchy as a whole
“So in Empire of the Senseless I went to de Sade who, in my mind, is the greatest writer of the Oedipal Myth. Freud and de Sade are the great modern purveyors of that myth, but Sade blasted it open. Feminists made me realise then why one would want to decentralise a father, take the father and tear him apart. I had some theory behind it. It also made me realise what my relate to these old authoritarian male poets was. I must have been influenced by them, but certainly in a perverse way…. I couldn’t find my own voice, I didn't know what my own voice was. And I’m sure that’s where I started to write in different voices and started to deal with schizophrenia. This was behind it, was in a way a fight against the fathers, because they were very much my fathers. It all fits nicely”

“As a sociopath, I feel I have no particular sexual identity. Even the term bisexual is misleading as it implies some sort of preference. I think equal opportunity is a more apt label in that I see no reason to discriminate… I think ambiguous sexuality is one of the best identifying traits of a sociopath.”

first and foremost Cahun was a writer, actress, and activist, but it was her performative self-portraits that broke new ground. Her images, some made as early as 1912, disrupted the institutionalised narrative of the time. They interrogated the idea of woman as object of the male gaze by reworking the tropes of masculinity. Her work revealed and undermined traditional thinking around gender, sexuality, beauty and identity, and did it in a way that is strikingly similar to contemporary feminist art and photography. Cahun paved the way for the feminist art movement.

I had a feeling that Pandora's box contained the mysteries of woman's sensuality, so different from a man's and for which a man's language was so inadequate... The language of sex had yet to be invented... The language of the senses was yet to be explored.
ANAIS NIN
“There were enough thoroughly bad women, and he preferred to see himself ruined by a beautiful demon that to be bored all his life and to commingle his spirit with that of a so-called virtuous woman. He had his own ideas as to the value of life, and prized an hour of voluptuous intoxication over an entire century of empty existence.”

Madonna - SEX
“I don’t see how a guy looking at a naked girl in a magazine is degrading to women. Everyone has their sexuality. It’s how you treat people in everyday life that counts, not what turns you on in your fantasy... Generally I don’t think pornography degrades women... I love looking at Playboy magazine because women look great naked.”
