ENCANTO + Doorways
Pay No Mind to the Voices Outside Part 1
Oftentimes, our minds become clouded with wayward thoughts. Most tend to push them down, as they see no value in reflecting on such matters.
For Dolores Madrigal, these thoughts don't come as easily anymore, but when they do she can get lost in her own mind.
But she always has someone to guide her back.
Warning: Angst, imagery of headaches and voices
Camilo
"Again! Again! Again!"
The sounds of children's laughter rang in the young girl's sensitive ears.
It had been five years since her hermano pequeño received his gift. A positively wonderful one at that.
Every day the young children would gather around her lively brother, as he played alongside them, changing forms and earning the smiles adorning their faces.
It was always pleasant to listen to in the morning, as the elder child made her rounds around town, listening intently for the latest stories or gossip.
As she made her way to the town's square, Dolores felt the ground shake a little, the fluttering of petals in the air and voices of praise made its way to her ears.
"Sí! Sí!"
"Wonderful! Absolutely wonderful!"
"Only the best from our beautiful princesa!"
Ah. Of course.
Walking closer beneath the shadow of one of the houses, Dolores spotted a figure dancing among the petals, wrapping her delicate hands on the woven-looking vines that sprung from the vines.
There, in the town's center was the Encanto's angel.
Her adored cousin, born only a few months before Dolores.
La familia Madrigal's pride and joy.
Isabela.
While Isa would hear the roaring of applause from the adoring crowd, from Dolores, her cousin would earn an eyeroll and a scoff for her antics.
Don't get her wrong! She loved her prima, and despite what one may think, Dolores could never be envious of Isabela. If anything, she admired her.
Isa's gift was a an utter spectacle to behold, and she knows it. The various flowers, plants, and trees she could grow were no less than perfect. She thrives off of the attention she receives, and the happiness her gift brings to people.
"Oh! How lovely!"
"These roses would look great as a center piece!"
"Papí! Look! Flor de mayo! Can we take some for Mamí?"
Yep. Isabela Madrigal does her family proud. And Dolores couldn't be happier for her.
So, why does she feel a crack in her heart? And why is her mind flooding with the various voices around her?
Surely, she was used to this by now, right? Her familia would come to town, her prima would bask in the glorious spotlight that shone on her since the day she was born, everyone would go about their day, and that was that.
Why was today any different?
Dolores decided not to dwell on the matter, and started walking back through the town-
-"Oh, mí preciosa!
Abuela...
"Oh, Abuela. It's nothing, really."
Back away. Just...walk away.
Abuela was never one to be too affectionate, especially in public. But, of course, Isabela was the one and only exception.
Why...?
The young girl knew that her gift wasn't exactly the flashiest like Isabela's, but she was still helpful. She was still just as special as her prima's. Wasn't she?
Wasn't she..?
WaSn'T ShE...
"Look at her go! She brings such honor to the Madrigal name."
"She must be the most beautiful of them all."
"None of the others could ever compare to her."
Don't think about it. Just keep moving.
And she did. But walking away from the scene didn't quiet down any of the voices that entered, and couldn't leave her mind.
Aimless in her direction, Dolores kept walking, her surroundings becoming a blur.
"....lores..."
Another voice. Another that she couldn't quite make out.
So she just kept walking.
"...olores..."
There it was again. Dolores kept her eyes trained in front of her, despite that her mind was slowly clearing from the fog of noise.
"...Dolores..."
Her name? Someone was calling her. Though her mind was fuzzy, she tried to decipher the voice. Yet, she couldn't stop walking. She only stopped once the owner of the voice grabbed her arm.
"Dolores!"
Oh. That's-
"Camilo?"
Blinking rapidly and shaking her head a bit, the older Madrigal looked down to see her little brother in front of her, holding her arm, looking mildly annoyance.
"Y'know, for someone who has super hearing, you didn't seem to notice me at all, did you? You walked right past me! I've been calling after you for a while now!"
How long was I-
"Oh, I'm. I'm sorry hermanito. I just...had a lot on my mind...that's all."
Camilo released her arm and looked quizzically at his sister, studying her. Then, a concerned look crossed his face.
"Hey, are you okay? You look kinda out of it."
Say nothing. It won't do any good to make him worry, now would it?
Dolores gave her brother a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes.
"Yes, mí hermano lindo. I'm fine, just a little tired. A lot of gossip lately, so much to keep up with, you know?"
He didn't look convinced, but he seemed content with her excuse. So he gave her a shrug and grabbed her hand.
"Alright then. C'mon! The other kids went home already, and I wanna get some of Tía's treats before everyone in town eats them all. Let's go!"
Disoriented from the sudden jolt of her brother's movements, Dolores regained her balance quickly before sprinting off with Camilo, trying to keep up with him.
What was he doing? He could easily sneak off with Tía Julietta's treats without her assistance. Maybe he needed a lookout? Or maybe-
The buzzing of voices in her mind disappeared.
Oh.
A small smile graced the sister's lips, as she picked up on her brother's pace.
Gracias Camilo. Gracias.
-------------------------------------------------------
Antonio
Today hadn't been the best for Dolores.
Breakfast had been cut short due to an incident involving several farmers. Apparently, one of the men had forgotten to lock the gates to the bulls and horses. Resulting in Luisa having to stop the animals, Tía Julietta using this morning's food for healing the injured farmers, and Pepa having to water the new crops since the old ones got stomped on.
So, hardly any breakfast, not interacting with the family as much, and having to help some of store owners fix up their shops thanks to some of the horses and bulls running into them.
Not a great start for the day.
By the afternoon, however, a young man, around Dolores's age, sought for her help.
He requested Dolores to listen in on his girlfriend's conversations for the day, as he suspected that his "novia bonita" was cheating on him.
A bit extreme, but if it was to give this guy some peace of mind.
After following and listening to the young girl throughout the day, Dolores concluded that she wasn't cheating.
Well, at least she got that over with.
As she turned around to go find the guy and tell him she heard and saw nothing, she stopped and turned around again when she heard new voice.
"Mí amor! Hey! I missed you. I managed to ditch the creep earlier today. Now it's just you and me."
"I missed you too. Glad you're here. When will that guy get it into his head that you'd rather knock yourself out by slaming into a table, then ever go out with him?
"I know, right?! Ugh! Whatever! Let's get out of here. I've got Señora Madrigal's arepas to share!"
"Oooh! Sounds great. I'm starving.
Oh.
Oh no.
So not only did the young Madrigal waste the rest of her day stalking and listening in on every conversation this lady had, but the guy who commissioned her for this task lied to her so that she can take his place in spying on her for the day.
Miércoles...
As if it couldn't get any worse, the creep himself showed up to confront the poor girl about "cheating" and proceeded to point directly at Dolores, revealing that he asked her to spy on her for the whole day.
As expected, an argument ensued, after which the girl slapped the creep, stomped over to Dolores to chew her out, causing quite the scene, then leaving.
Dolores left as well, feeling no less than used, ashamed and tired.
As she walked away, voices flooded her mind once again.
"Useless girl! What was she good for?!"
"I can't believe a Madrigal would stoop that low."
Her pace quickened.
No. No. Just ignore them.
"The nerve she has! Going around spying on good citizens."
At some point, she started running.
Don't stop. You'll be home soon. You'll be-
"All for gossip, it seems. Tch. I thought her better than that.
"WhAt A sHaMe."
WhAt A SHaMe

SH aM e
SHAME
She doesn't recall when she finally reached the house.
She ran to the backyard and collapsed. Out of breath. Her mind echoing the screaming well of voices. In a desperate attempt to drown out the awful noise, she covered her ears with her hands.
Why?
This hadn't happened in so long.
Bad days like today were common, almost a daily occurrence for the young Madrigal.
What shifted?
What changed?
Why were there moments like this when she could hear everything and nothing at the same time?
After what felt like minutes, Dolores could hear yet another voice.
"...es...?
"....lores...?"
Her name again? But in a much gentler voice than the last.
"...you okay...?
They sounded, young.
"Dolores?"
Ah. Quite young indeed.
"Antonio?"
The four-year-old looked at his sister, his big eyes full of wonder and worry. He was always very empathetic for a boy his age.
"I saw you run here. You look bad."
She commended him for his honesty at least...
Dolores shook her head to try and focus on her concerned baby brother.
"Oh! I'm fine, Toñito. I just had a busy day, that's all.
Well, technically she wasn't lying.
The little boy still looked worried. He held out his arms, a silent plea for a hug. In response, Dolores opened her own arms. Her brother walked towards her, hugging her neck as he settled in her lap.
"Aww. Don't worry, Toñito. Your hermana is just tired."
Antonio nestled a bit closer.
"Are you feeling good again?" He asked.
Dolores stilled for a moment, before nodding.
"Sí. All thanks to you, hermanito. How about we go inside and rest for a while until dinner is ready?"
"'Kay." He replied.
Lifting herself and her little brother off the ground, Dolores headed for the door. All while smiling to herself.
Gracias, Antonio. I pray that your gift won't be as horrible as mine.
-------------------------------------------------------
La Familia
"Salud!"
Another long day ending with a family dinner.
There was, a lot to adjust to.
It was hard to think that over two weeks ago, la familia Madrigal had been so...distant.
Well, perhaps that wasn't entirely true. The family had always been close, but there was always something missing. Or rather, someone.
Tío Bruno had returned, even though he was never truly gone. Dolores would know.
It was so melancholic, listening to her tío through the walls. Hearing every quick shuffle of feet. Every deep, tired sigh. Every mumble of disappointment he would utter.
Everything.
But! That was the past.
Now her tío sits at the with the rest of them where he belongs.
No longer would he peak through the cracks in the wall just to see his beloved family eat, laugh, tell stories, or simply talk about their day.
No longer did he look to the rats for companionship.
No longer would Dolores hear the quiet sadness that grew in Bruno's heart day after day.
Nope! Never again.
The Madrigal home was brighter than ever before. Their home was restored, their gifts returned, the family was whole again.
Now, her family dined together. Talking, laughing, and enjoying each other's company.
Every conversation at the table was met with giggles, witty remarks, or gentle scoldings.
There was only one...tiny...thing...
"I wonder what caused La Casita Madrigal to break in the first place."
"Probably an issue with the walls. That place is as old as the Encanto itself, after all."
All the rumors.
Of course, most conversations about the Madrigal's were pleasant.
The Encanto's citizens were kind, hardworking people, deserving of the Madrigal's help and support.
But sometimes, they spoke about them in...less than kind ways.
And she heard it all.
"Mmh. Hey, sis." Camilo said with his mouth full of food. "Are you gonna finish that? You've just been staring at your plate."
She turned to look at her brother on her left, his stuffed voice having interrupted her.
"Uh, what?"
"Camilo," her father cut in, "you have more than enough on your own plate. Don't be greedy!"
"Aw man."
They both resumed eating. Dolores took a few bites out of her own meal.
Keep them out. Don't listen to them. She told herself repeatedly.
But she couldn't help it. As she chewed, she focused on the conversations had between everyone in the Encanto.
"I can't believe Mariano is with that creepy Madrigal!"
Creepy...?
"Ugh! I know. He must have pretty low standards to go after her of all people. If he was going to be with one of those weirdos, he could have at least picked Isabela!"
"Well, they both never went through with the proposal. Maybe the poor sap got a hold of his senses and turned tail as fast as he could. Especially after la princesa changed so much. Hehe!
...Mariano Guzman was a man of deep passion.
While his love for her prima, now long past, was based more on admiration than true love, Dolores understood that he respected Isa, and never thought of her as a trophy.
"Did you see how Isabela looked the other day? I've never seen that girl look so crazy in my life!"
Her prima is happier. She's tasted freedom for the first time since she received her gift. Why does it matter that she looks-
"Maybe she finally cracked after spending so much with the rest of them. I mean, if I had to live under the same roof as Señorita Orejas de Elefante, I'd go mad too."
"Dolores? Mija, everything aLriGht?"
The table's idle chatter was ever so slowly fading away.
"Perhaps Bruno somehow cursed them all. He's always been a bad omen, you know?"
What-?
"A bad omen for what? For Casita crumbling down to pieces? Or for one of his nieces to get the worst gift imaginable?"
"Um, DoLoreS. ArE YoU OkAy...?
Every voice surrounding her became a jumble of incoherent noise.
"Gift? HA! I'd call it a curse! Why would anyone want to be around someone who'd squeal the first secret she heard like a pig on an open farm?"
The young Madrigal kept many secrets. Most of which would split families apart if they were to come out. And she often felt sick when she heard them.
The gossip around town served as a good distraction from the darker secrets that plagued her mind.
For ten years, she was the only one who knew about Tío Bruno's whereabouts.
For so long, she comforted Camilo when he lost his way in the world.
"...Dolores..."
She heard every aching muscle in Luisa's arms.
"...Dolores..."
The thundering clouds her mother struggled to suppress.
"...Dolores..."
And then it all came crashing down as the hideous cracks the grew from the walls.
Those deafening cracks...
The cracks that destroyed their childhood home...
The cracks that nearly killed everyone she held dear-
-Stop thinking about it! Stop listening! It's over now!
It won't stop. Everything came back as a swarm of horrid memories and poisoned words that tainted her mind.
Curse
Bad omen

"DOLORES!!"
To be continued.
Author's note: This idea spawned from a lack of Dolores angst, something needed to be done. The next chapter will have her parents and brothers try to help her, don't worry!
P.S: Out of all of them, I honestly think that Dolores has the worst gift. Hearing everything and everyone around you 24/7 would be horrible.
Anyway! I hope you all enjoyed this. Feedback on my work is always appreciated. I hope you all enjoyed this, and I'll see you later! Byeee! 💗
i was right , he 100% transforms to scare the kids or just general people in encanto (/hj lmao)

i’m irrevocably in love with you | camilo madrigal x fem! reader
you’re prepared for the day your beloved ever asks you why you love him; it’s the little things.
“wait, i’ll do that- yeah, i’ll bring your plate to the kitchen,”
how after every meal we eat at the dinner table, you would take my used plate, sparring me the extra effort in bringing it to the sink.
“here, drink some water. i’m sure we’re all jolly that mami’s in joy, but it’s getting hotter.”
how you think of me in your happy days, and care for my state.
“y/n, amor! i dropped by juan’s bakery and got you your favorites. come eat them while they’re still hot,”
how tired you are at the end of most days because of your chores, yet you still exert the unnecessary effort to make mine.
“i d-did that…? dios, i’m so sorry, vida, i’ll be better from now on,”
how you’re able to put your pride aside and stay open-minded, doing your best to understand me.
i could go on for days on end, my camilo.
how you ask me about my day and listen to each tale told, eyes showing such interest that tell me how invested you are.
how you leave little notes ranging from bad jokes to sweet ones around your room whenever you’re away doing chores as i wait for you, giving me entertainment and love as boredom leaves the picture.
how you bring me flowers plucked from the greens you pass by and tell me, “i know i could just ask isa to grow you ones, but i figured this would be more meaningful.”
how you aren’t afraid to show how much you love your family and more.
how much you love me.
you walked towards me with a grin on your face as you plopped down on the sofa beside me, your eyes tired yet passionate.
“so, mi vida, how was your day?”
for you will always be the reason my heart beats, camilo madrigal.

Two by Two
Being Camilo’s twin wasn’t easy when you think your gift wasn’t as ‘flashy’ or as happiness-inducing like your brother’s. As Casita breaks down maybe your power could be finally of good use.
masterlist !! two by two headcanons
Platonic! Twin! Camilo x Twin! Reader
What’s worse than one Camilo Madrigal? Two Camilo Madrigals. Well, not exactly but you might as well be. Born a few minutes after Camilo was born, you were twins with the one and only troublemaker shapeshifter of the Madrigal Family. Though you can say you aren’t as bad as your older brother. Sure you would play meaningless pranks here and there but you were surprisingly more tame than he was, acting like another much more mischievous Isabela in your Abuela’s words.
While your brother had the ability to shapeshift into different people, you had the ability to shapeshift into different animals. Safe to say the first few months of having your miracles, Encanto experienced frequent thunderstorms and rainfall. The two of you were almost the same except however for your personalities. Yet you two would insist you were identical, often wearing matching ruanas as well as matching slippers so that you two wouldn't be told apart. You were proud to have him as your big brother and had loved him so.
Although you would be a bit envious of Camilo. Turning into different animals weren’t as flashy and people pleasing as Camilo’s. Though you tried to hide the fact that you felt that way.
One would think the two of you wouldn’t be as close but you would be surprised. Camilo adored you, you were his twin, you two shared the same womb, it was natural for him to be overprotective. He’d frequently tell you that you two would stick with one another no matter what.
You can always remember the times when you two were younger, whenever you’re upset he would always be sure to defend you. Sure you’d sometimes get into little arguments and tussles but it wouldn’t even last long. He would always be the first one to cave in and apologize. Although the two of you were almost the same, you were more sensitive than he was, fighting would almost always end up with you crying and storming out of frustration.
“I’m your twin.” He would remind you with a smile that the two of you shared. “You’re my twin, we stick together through thick and thin.” Camilo would promise. No matter what you or him did, the two of you would always be stuck with one another.
Although following your little brother Antonio’s gift ceremony, as well as the declaration that cracks were showing in Casita as well as the candle flickering, the two of you had ended up at odds once more. You stood by Mirabel, believing in your cousin that the miracle was dying. After all, Mirabel wouldn’t lie about such a thing. You were sure of it.
You didn't expect to discover more of yourself now that Casita was allegedly breaking down. The insecurities that you had dug deep deep down to please your abuela Alma resurfaced after stumbling upon Mirabel, while coaxing her sister to give her a hug. You didn't anticipate joining Isabela on venting out what you had thought were your flaws and weaknesses.
You grimaced as you watched Abuela’s enraged outburst. Everything was a mess.
Your primas, Luisa could barely lift an empanada, and Isabela was out of control. Then again you might have also been a part of the little flower show that Isabela had done, causing imperfect but still beautiful flowers and plants to grow. Your abuela had almost always suggested turning into animals that were beautiful in her standards. An orchid mantis, a scarlet macaw, a multicolored tanager, a peacock or a flamingo.. those were what she deemed as beautiful. Never what you liked. She never asked what you would like to turn to. Her obsession with perfection extended to you in a way. It's always been just,
(Name) turn into this..
(Name) this would look beautiful..
Ay, (Name) that animal would do no good, it must be beautiful..
And you couldn’t help but resent how she doesn’t tell off Camilo to change into 'beautiful' and 'perfect' people. Camilo was free. Camilo was free to change to who he wants and he wouldn’t get scolded for changing into something your Abuela thought was dangerous and ugly. So when you finally had the chance to be free and wild? You took the opportunity.
You had run and danced alongside them, turning into different animals you had only heard of from books as Isabela bloomed stranger but equally beautiful flowers.
A lion, leopard, tiger, and a beautiful snake too.. all of it had frightened the villagers as you ran and ‘danced’ on the roofs of Casita with your cousins and it didn’t take long until your Abuela Alma to rush in Casita, shaking with fury. Caught up with the rush, you hadn’t even had time to change back from your form, a clouded leopard with Isabela’s colorful flower stains on your fur.
You looked down as your Abuela berated Mirabel. Lips parting as she spoke to Mirabel with venom lacing her words. You tried to find the words to defend her. Still unchanging, your fur reflecting in the moonlight as you stood there beside Isabela.
“Look at our home! Look at your sister, your cousin..!” She says, appalled by your messy and wild form. At that you had slowly changed back, unable to meet your grandmother’s eyes.
“Please, just, Isabela and (Name) weren't happy.” Mirabel tries to explain as your cousin had started to pat down the colorful mess on her dress before turning to you to gently wipe the color off your face. Both of you shifting in place nervously.
“Of course they’re unhappy! You ruined her proposal and (Name), Mirabel, you managed to rope in your prima too?”
It was a back and forth before your grandmother’s voice had shakily escaped her lips.
“The cracks started with you.” Your abuela took a step forward. “Bruno left because of you.”
“Luisa’s losing her powers! Isabela’s out of control and (Name) has gone wild because of you!” You could see Mirabel's expression and you wanted nothing more but to come to her rescue.
“I don’t know why you weren’t given a gift! But it is not an excuse for you to hurt this family!” The ground shook from underneath you, Casita’s tiles cracked as Mirabel lowered her gaze.
“I will.. never be good enough for you, will I?” Mirabel’s voice felt unsteady and you could see your Tia and Tio Julieta and Agustin behind your abuela, worry written in their features. “No matter how hard I try..” Her gaze trailed to her sisters and you.
“No matter how any of us tries. Luisa will never be strong enough, Isabela won’t be perfect enough, (Name) won’t be like Camilo, Bruno left our family because you only saw the worst in him!” Mirabel exclaims. You winced at her words, looking down at your feet. You won’t ever be like Camilo. You won’t please enough people, you won’t make others happy just like your hermano did. You refused to look at your parents eyes’, clearly showing that they didn’t know how hard you struggled to please everyone by limiting who you were.
You especially couldn’t look at Camilo who, thankfully, wasn’t in sight.
“Bruno didn’t care about this family!” The skies darkened and more cracks started to appear underneath your feet.
“He loves this family, I love this family, we all love this family, you’re the one that doesn’t care. You’re the one breaking our home..!” Mirabel continued, frustration written in her features.
“Don’t you ever..!” Your abuela had taken a step forward, her face contorting in anger. But Mirabel had stood her ground.
“The miracle is dying because of you!” Your abuela’s eyes widened and she had looked taken aback, the angry expression fading from her worn and old face.
And for a millisecond everything was silent until the ground split between the two of them. Your mami had gasped, hands raised as her eyes were focused on the candle. Mirabel and Abuela had looked towards where the candle was perched, gasping.
“The candle!”
As the cracks worsened, it knocked the candle out of balance. Everyone braced themselves as the ground shook once more. Mirabel was the first to move, running towards the candle.
“Casita, get me up there!” Casita had broken one of the railings, turning it into a ladder she could climb up on. You caught a glimpse of Camilo’s figure who had looked at you briefly, lips pursed and an unreadable expression on his face. You watch him shift into different people, ducking and running to not save the candle but Mirabel.
Your cousin Isabela had grabbed a vine, swinging and attempting to help but as she did so, you caught sight of her door, flickering before slowly going out of light. Her powers went away too as she suddenly fell, and with the help of Casita had managed to get down safely.
Your brother Camilo was close, jumping to reach the roof in Jose’s form before he had turned back to himself again and you would have helped if it weren’t for Casita beating you to it. You quickly turned to Mirabel, turning into a cheetah and attempting to save her. Damn the miracle. Your cousin had helped you be more of yourself, and realize you didn’t have to worry about making people happy as long as you were happy. Your happiness came first and it took your prima to realize that.
You jumped and quickly maneuvered the debris that stood in your way, paws tapping against the cracked tiles that was pristine before. Seeing Antonio being carried away by your father, you had swiftly pushed and guided them to the way as more debris fell. You could see Mirabel reach the rooftop, and you struggled to climb up with her, running along the ladder Casita had placed down with all your might.
“Mirabel!” You could hear your Tia Julieta call out for your cousin, watching as the tiles created waves to push her back to the rest of the family.
“(Name)!” Your own mother’s voice had exclaimed, trying to reach out for you as well. “(Name)! Mirabel, leave it!”
As she struggled to reach the window, you had helped her out, letting her climb on your back, pushing her against the wall so she could have something to hold on as Casita’s roof tiles pushed her up even more. For some reason your door was still okay, still glowing despite the flickers. You can only hope you would have enough time to get the two of you out of there.
Your eyes widened as the largest tower of your home had slowly descended and you watched Mirabel as Casita caught her, creating a slide on the way down. You let out a frightened yowl as you were separated from her, your door finally flickering and going out as you shifted back to yourself, a large crash echoing as Casita came crashing down on the two of you.
Your family had quickly rushed in as the worst of the disaster had passed, dust and smoke wafting about.
“Mirabel!” Julieta’s cries filled the air with Pepa’s calling of your own. “(Name)!”
Your Abuela was settled down by Dolores, making sure the older woman was alright before she had joined the search for you. And she had sobbed, her gift being no more. Despite the times she wished her miracle was different or she hadn’t gotten a miracle at all, she wished her hearing had returned now so she could find you. She would take it all back, have her miracle enhanced to its maximum and she wouldn’t mind. If it meant hearing you again.
Camilo Madrigal had never been scared. He was supposed to be all smiles, so he could entertain, so he could make everyone happy. But as he saw you chase after Mirabel, dread pooled in his stomach.
His throat was sore as he called out your name along with your mami. No, no, he could lose his powers but not you. He didn’t even have the chance to say sorry yet. He didn’t know. If he had known what you had felt, what you had thought of yourself, he would’ve reassured you. He didn’t want another him, he only wanted one of you.
He was the first in the pile of debris, looking around for any sign of you.
“(Name), please, where are you!?” Dios, Dios, if he can hear Camilo’s prayers, please let him find you safe. “(Name), hija, where are you?!” Your mother and father had sobbed in worry.
You and Him. Him and You. Two by two, remember?
And Camilo had sobbed, desperation evident in his painful cries. The gravity of the situation weighing down on him. What if he never finds you? What if he was a twin no more? He’d give everything up just to know that you’re okay.
He was slowly losing all hope. There was no sign of you.
Memories of growing up with you had suddenly entered his mind and made him sob harder. The day of your fifth birthdays’ he had told you that he would use his powers just not to help the people of Encanto but to protect you, his baby sister. He promised to make you smile no matter what and protect that smile too. He promised that you would never be apart.
Once you had gotten lost whilst running wild in Encanto's forests in your many animal forms, exploring and not heeding any warnings or calls from your parents. As soon as Dolores had informed the rest of the family of your disappearance, he was already grabbing his ruana and a lamp. It didn't take long for him to find you, huddled inside a hollow tree, whimpering and calling out for him.
You were inconsolable, having been under the impression that you had been forgotten and abandoned. Camilo only shook his head and carried you on his back where you hugged his neck tight.
"No matter where you are, hermana, even if you were on the opposite side of the world, I'll always come and find you."
He had made you laugh, and had tried his hardest not to make you cry. He would tease you but you’d know he didn’t mean a word. He would give you seconds and when the two of you were caught, he would take the blame.
And he squeezed his eyes shut, tears continuing to roll down his freckles cheeks.
“Hermana, please..” He collapsed on his knees, hands trembling and all cut up as he had tried to dig through numerous piles of broken down walls and furniture. Antonio had curled up behind him, not wanting to believe that you were gone. Pepa and Felix had joined, pulling each other into a tight hug as Dolores stifled a sob.
“Cami..” A quiet voice had come out of nowhere and he swore he had never gotten up that fast. “(Name)?” He calls out. Was his mind deceiving him?
"Camilo," There it was again. Calling out to him and he whipped his head from side to side, looking for the source of the voice.
"(Name)! I hear you!" Dios, Dios, was it you? Were you okay? He begged to whomever was listening that it was you who he heard.
“Cami.. Mamí, Papí, Toñito..” Another call of his name and the rest of your families’ and he knew he wasn’t hallucinating anymore. “(Name)! Where are you, hermana!?” He was up on his feet, your own family following after him as hope swelled in their hearts.
A pile of furniture was situated deeper in the ruins of Casita and there you were, huddled up under the protection of the large dining room table as well as the large doors of your home. You coughed again, dust in your lungs as you breathed in.
Camilo was the first one to hold you, pulling you close and hugging you tightly as he sobbed against your hair. “Hermana,” You couldn’t look him in the eyes after what Mirabel had said but you allowed him to hold you. The next thing you knew you were both engulfed into a warm hug by your parents and Dolores who had sobbed as well, Antonio wiggling in between you and Camilo’s hug.
“I was afraid we lost you, (Name).” Pepa’s voice trembled as she gently cupped your dust covered cheek in her hands, wiping them away as tears rolled down her cheeks. She held you close, squeezing as if making sure that she wasn't dreaming. She gently held you in arm's length, looking over to make sure that you were okay.
"Mami, I.."
“Why didn’t you tell us?” Felix had gently held your shoulder and you looked down at the question as you felt Camilo’s gaze on you.
“I didn’t want.. I just wanted to make everyone happy like Camilo,” You admit. “But it’s hard with a miracle like mine.. or what once was mine. I thought if I just kept quiet, I’ll slowly love who I am and what I'm meant to be. I thought I’d be satisfied with just being.. I just wanted to make you happy.” You trailed off as you hiccupped.
“Lo siento, mamí, papí..” Pepa and Felix looked at one another before shaking their heads. “Ay, mija.. whatever makes you happy, makes us happy. Your happiness comes first and foremost. Whatever you wish to do, we will be right behind you.”
Camilo sighed softly as he gently pats your head. “You don’t need to make everyone happy, hermana. I don’t want you to be like me. I like you the way you are. I like (Name) Madrigal, my twin sister.” He says seriously.
“And besides, you think the town could take another me? We might as well be shooed out of Encanto.”
You stifled a laugh, your cries ceasing as you smiled and Camilo had mirrored your own. “See?” He ruffles your hair and your would tilt your head curiously, wondering what he had meant.
“I told you, I’ll always find you."

˗ˏˋ FREE SAMPLES! ´ˎ
*ੈ✩‧₊˚ IN WHICH: Camilo shapeshifts into one of the villagers just to get another free cake sample from you but his tricks don’t work out like he wanted them to.
˚ · . camilo madrigal x gn!reader who’s a baker.
“Your order is one tres leches and a pack of frosted cupcakes, correct?” You talked to one of your costumers through the telephone. A faint ‘yes’ could be heard from the other side of the line as you took notes of the order.
“Alright, tu orden estaria ahí muy pronto!” (your order will arive soon.) You informed them with a smile. “Muchas gracias” (thank you very much) The woman thanked as she hanged up the phone call.
You sighed loudly as you finally sat down. Today has been a very stressful day, the bakery has been filled with people since the morning because it was a Saturday. All you wanted was to be trapped in your boyfriends arms as you played with his hair.
Your hopeless thoughts get interrupted by the sound of the door open with the loud ring of a bell. A short tan man walking into the bakery. He looked awkwardly suspicious. You took a deep breath in, standing up and greeting the customer.
Trying your best not to show your vivid exhaustion, you smile and greet the man. “Hola, Buenas tardes! How can i help you today? i serve all types of sweets!” (hello, good evening) You start, the man just raising an eyebrow at you as if he could sense your tiredness.
The man coughed and ‘fixed’ his voice. “Uh yeah, do you have red velvet?” He asked with a smile. “Um yeah! Would you like cake? or-” You asked him kindly but widened your eyes as he interrupted you. “Do you give out samples?” He questioned but sounded like he already knew the answer.
You raise your eyebrow at him, that’s weird. “Yeah! Would you like me to bring you-” You stopped talking as he answered quickly. “Yes!” He yelled out but coughed again. “Sorry- I meant yes please” He blushed.
“Um alright” You simply said while going to scoop out a sample for him. You walked up to him slowly, handing him the small cup. “Mmm, this is super good” He said but his voice sounded different.
His eyes widened at himself. “Aw thank you- wait” Your e/c eyes also widened as you realized he sounded like… “Camilo?!?” You yelled at him surprisingly but also not so surprised. He shifted back into himself and shrugged. “You caught me!” He said so calmly.
“En serio?!” (Are you serious) You gasped with a hand on your forehead. “What! I was craving something sweet and i’ve never tried your red velvet cake so i decided to try it and it’s so good! I might order a whole cake of it-” He complimented.
“Uh huh, muy amable y todo Camilo, but you scared me! You didn’t need to act so… weird!” You complained as you crossed your arms at him. “I’m sorry, mi vida. Maybe i can make it up to you by giving you cuddles the rest of the afternoon? You seem tired” He says sweetly and he caresses your cheek with his thumb gently. You immediately melt against his touch.
“Fine. I’m going to close the bakery early just for you!” I told him and pinched his cheek softly. He smiled and followed you, behind the counter. You two got ready to close the bakery, cleaning and organizing everything before locking the doors and changing the sign to ‘closed’.
“Finally!” Camilo groaned loudly causing you to let out a laugh. “Thats what i have to do everyday” You sigh dramatically while his hands connected with yours tightly. “Whenever you need help with anything just look for me, amor” He told you with a smile on his pink lips. He admired your unique facial features, taking in your beauty.
You two walked towards casita, fingers interlocked. The small walk home was just a trail of laughters and smiles. Once Pepa saw you enter the house, a rainbow appeared above her head. “Y/n! Hola, mija! How are you?? How was the bakery today?!” The ginger said as she took you away from Camilo and embraced you in a warm hug.
You smiled against her yellow dress. “Hola, pepa! I’m okay, today the bakery was very busy and i got very tired so i’m going to take a break just for the rest of the afternoon. Enough about me now! How are you?” You asked with a wide grin. Her smile got bigger as she began to rant about her day, taking you to the living room as you both sat down and talked.
“Mami! You guys have talked more than i talk in one day! Can i borrow Y/n now?!” Your boyfriend whined as you chuckled, taking a sip of the tea she offered. “Fine! Pero you have to bring her to me after!” Pepa breathed with her finger out in the air.
“Yes, claro! Maybe tomorrow i’ll bring you guys some of the new cookies i made” You smile kindly at the woman and Camilo perked up at your words. “How wonderful!” “Really?!” The two relatives said at the same time. Y/n chuckled again and walked towards Camilo. “Bueno, Chao Pepa!” You wave at her, she waves back with her smile still plastered on her face.
You took a seat on Camilos bed as he spoke up. “Jeez, you guys always talk so much when you see each other!” The curly haired complained, throwing himself on his bed and pulling you with him. You laughed while he wrapped his arms around your body, pulling you close to him. You smiled against his ruana, rubbing your thumb on his arm softly. He closed his eyes at the feeling of your delicate touch.
“Sleep. I’ll fight the bad dreams off if they come to get you” He whispered affectionately, pressing his lips against your forehead and with that you fluttered your eyes closed, drifting off to a dreamless comforting sleep. Once the boy heard your soft snores he smiled.
“Eres un ángel, mi vida. Estoy tan agradecido de tener alguien como tú” (you’re an angel, my life. I’m so grateful to have someone like you) He muttered and fell asleep, the warmth of your presence giving him the comfort he needed for a perfect sleep.
The end :D and yes, dolores was in awe with the scene. She heard every bit of it and would tease her brother about it when he woke up.

day one
Camilo was too pissed to admit he was lost, but he really was. It wasn't like him to wander off so far from the village, but then again, it wasn't like him to fight with his family in the first place. His only comfort in the midst of his anger was that he was still within the limits of Encanto, for the mountains around it were so tall there was no way he could pass them without noticing.
