Anime Suggestions

I just finished Hyouka and really enjoyed it! If you’re looking for something lighthearted or slice of life, you’ve come to the right place. You’ll follow the everyday adventures of the English Literature Club and solve one shot mysteries. It’s also done by the legendary Kyoto animation, so if you like their other works you should check this out!

“Oh, suddenly an Egyptian God” is a very cute Slice of Life anime. The episodes are short and really funny. If you liked Senyuu you’ll definitely love this anime 10/10 for cuteness alone.

Today is my birthday! So I’m going to highlight an awesome (and fairly well known) anime. The Promised Neverland follows the story of three orphans name Emma, Norman, and Ray. They live their lives peacefully with their other orphan “siblings.” When one of their siblings gets adopted they uncover a sinister life-threatening secret. This is honestly one of my favorite anime and manga of all time. It’s definitely got some darker themes like children dying and murder. But if you like a good thriller/mystery, then this is the show for you!

If your like me, quarantine has been tough. But not to worry, Fruits Basket is here! We follow a young girl name Tohru Honda who has recently lost her mother. She initially moved in with her grandpa, but doesn’t feel welcome there. While camping in a remote area she meets the Sohma family and decides to temporarily live with them. If you love shojou, romance, and fantasy then Fruits basket is for you. 💕💕💕 (and while I think the reboot is better, the old one is full of nostalgia and good times all around).

Makoto Shinkai has done it again. Weathering with you tells the story of Hina, a girl with powers to bring sunshine and Hodaka a runaway. Together they bring sunshine throughout Tokyo. But at what cost? The film is coming to dvd soon, so check it out! Also the dub is one of the best I’ve ever heard so there’s that too.

If you’re looking for gorgeous animation and engaging characters, Violet Evergarden is for you. We follow a young girl named Violet—who was until recently a child soldier. Now living as a civilian, she discovers how to become more empathetic and understanding of how people operate. While there is only one season out right now, I could not recommend this anime enough. The visuals are stunning and the characters are handcrafted with diverse backgrounds and qualities. So get some tissues ready and enjoy Violet Evergarden.

I’m sure a lot of you have already heard/seen this film, but I got it for Christmas and felt like it deserved a mention. It is a seemingly typical love story about a boy meeting a girl. Except they switch bodies to do so. The animation is beautiful and the story is heartwarming overall. If you want a simple ‘feel good’ kind of film, this one is it.

So I haven’t actually seen the anime but I’m assuming it follows the plot of the manga. It’s about these six friends from high school writing to their past selves about the regrets they have. One being that one of their friends died. It’s a nice kind of shoujo that develops the relationships of each character nicely. Nothing felt overly dramatic for shock value. Instead everything lead to character development. There are only 13 episodes so it is something you could easily watch casually. Hope you like it!

Another is a nice one if you are into horror. If you’re into action I think Samurai x/Ruonin Kenshin is also great. I’m also into Soul Eater and Fullmetal Alchemist for plot and interesting characters. If you’re looking for less know hidden gems I would suggest watching XXX holic or Pandora Hearts. Both have interesting stories and darker characters. :D Hope this helped!

I know that this is a blog for anime but I have loved reading Tower of God. It’s got amazing artwork and a really cool fantasy story. It is free on Webtoons with no ads! Seriously if you like Fairy Tail go ahead and give it a try! :)

Elemental Gelade is an action shounen anime. It's similar to soul eater in that there are weapons and wielders. Weapons are actually fairly rare and called Edel Raids. The gelade or stone is what gives them this power. Some people have created synthetic gelade but they aren't as durable or as good. Our protagonist Cou binds to Ren a very powerful Edel Raid and promises to accompany her on their journey. Fun typical shounen anime that I really enjoyed.

Your Lie in April is an anime with love and lots of music. I really enjoyed the first 8 or 9 episodes. It started to drag a bit but was well worth the wait. It’s especially great for musicians. The artwork is pretty and I loved all the characters. Give this anime a chance even though there are some slow parts. There are some reoccurring themes of abuse. So be forewarned.
