Hello!!  I’m so sorry for the late response to this :( unfortunately neither of us mods have seen fruits basket… from what research I’ve done, however, there does seem to be themes of childhood abuse (I don’t think sexual, but I may be wrong) which can be triggering for some people.  Adults are known to talk about Sexy Time but I haven’t heard anyone say the kids do it, nor that the adults talk about it towards the kids (although it may be around the kids)

Additionally, probably the biggest thing I’d look out for is the fact that the characters who can transform into animals end up transforming back into humans while nude.  Some of these characters are adults, but some of them are children, meaning this can be uncomfortable for many viewers.  The people discussing this said that the shots aren’t posed sexually nor is anything actually lewd shown (I mean, thank fuck) - but I have yet to verify that.

I’ve also heard that the anime takes liberties from the manga, but I don’t know if these effect the rumored pedophilic undertones are affected by that at all.  (From what I’ve heard, it’s like the FMA ‘03 anime vs the manga.)  Although, like FMA, it’s getting a revamp anime in 2019 that will be more accurate to the manga!

I would suggest that if shows like Miraculous Ladybug make you uncomfortable, Fruits Basket will probably not be a good anime for you.  But if anyone has more detailed information, please, let us know so we can help out anon! ;;

GOD YEA it has a habit of….doing that….some supports are just so bad and wildly uncomfy i just skip em bc yikesIm still in a decent age range compared to a lot of the characters so luckily a lot of the options are still ok with me but like…god….i havent thought abt the older fans playing because a lot of the older units are like Ryoma/Xander which is….bad or theyre all like grandparent age smh Tbh I havent finished the main narrative yet and honestly? Im already doing that- Bc i love a lot of the characters, they have more depth than Awakening imo, (ive only played Fates and Awakening so) so I dont wanna just drop the game but the story is kinda…meh so far- so i just make something up as I go along like you saidTbh its much more enjoyable that way

Dont get me wrong i love marrying my furry husbands but what i hate is that the gay/lesbian options are problematic (mostly the lesbian option, Niles is on thin ice) and the fact it openly allows incest from the get go! Like no matter what side you pick in fates you can marry your adoptive siblings or real siblings, which either way is just? Disgusting? That and the 'canon' romantic option for the male player is another relative so that's. Great. Not to mention there's Elise who is 'technically' an adult in the English version while she was still a kid in the Japanese version just so they can let it slide to marry her off to some adult! Like uuuhhh no thanks there

Back to the gay/lesbian options because im still bitter, lets talk about Rhajat, the lesbian option. First Rhajat is a CHILD unit meaning the player character, whom i will call Corrin for simplicity, has known her parents AND when she was born so thats already super funky and disgusting. Sure she aged in the baby realm (which is stupid in an entirely different way which i will not be getting into) but that still does not make it ok! Its pedophilia no matter how you look at it. Secondly, is the fact that Rhajat is a stalker type of character. They stalk Corrin and have some sort of obsession with them. So not only does this enforce the predatory lesbian trope its also just a toxic relationship in general, dating your stalker? What the heck!! Making Rhajat the lesbian option when there were SO many other good candidates was quite frankly, disgusting and whoever thought it was a good idea should be fired

animesafetyzone is a blog run by two nerds who want to appropriate anime nerd from racists and pedophiles.  We both have a strong passion for animation, good storytelling, and the future of one of the biggest animated industries in the world.  We desperately want to see anime succeed, because it’s the kind of content we enjoy and an important market that not many other animation industries fulfill.

Alongside anime, we also time-to-time take a look at things besides anime, such as mangas, movies, cartoons, and even the occasional video game or something of that sort.  But our main focus is anime, so you’ll see mostly that on our list!

We currently don’t have a very big safe list yet, with just a handful of our personal favorite animes on it, but we’re actively working on a few of the shows in our watch list and will likely update it soon!  We’re also looking to expand our watch list currently, and maybe find some more obscure hidden gems!
