The woolly monkey, also called lagotriche, is a daytime primate that spends its life in the foliage of the South American jungles where it moves with agility using its tail as a 5th limb. Sign of its adaptation to its arboreal way of life, it is also covered with fur (like the rest of its body) with the exception of a bare area at the end which allows it to better grip the branches. Gentle and peaceful monkey living in mixed groups that communicate with each other by olfactory signals and evolve over vast territories, it is hunted for its flesh and bears the brunt of the fragmentation and disappearance of its forest habitat. The 5 species of woolly monkeys identified to date are all threatened.
