Journal Entry #1
Before I came along there was my family. In Memphis of 1939, twelve year old Rill Fross and her four younger siblings were born into a fascinating life. Not at all was their life perfect, because my life background resulted from the history of my familyâs past. The misfortune begins after their father had rushed their mother into the hospital on a night of severe weather. However the children in the household couldnât come along, and were stationed home supervised by the oldest child, Rill. On the night of the witching hour with heavy pouring rain, the childrenâs household was intruded by unwelcoming guests. Wrapped away from all that is familiar, and bundled into an orphanage of the Tennessee Children's Home Society, the Foss children were reassured that they will be returning back to their parents soon. However, they quickly realize the horrible truth. At the whims of the barbaric invaders, Rill fights attempting to keep her brothers and sisters together, away from a world of risk and danger. The children are then brought to an orphanage under the control of three violent women. Each of the children were abused, hurt, neglected, and were awfully fed. As time passes, suffering by the loss of her sister, and watching every sibling separate into wealthy families by adoption, what's left was to watch them get taken away. With the hopeless feeling in Rillâs stomach, there was no possibility in escaping or even seeing her siblings ever again. Only time would tell whereâd they end up.
Journal Entry #2
The rich composer and his wife foster Rill and her sister Fern, together. Mr. and Mrs. Sevier regard Rill and Fern well and are grateful for having children in their household after many of her miscarriages. Their new foster parents do not stick with the names Rill and Fern, and rather change their names from Rill to who now is âMayâ, and âBethâ, who before was Fern. Eventually, the children were brought back to the âTennessee Childrenâs Home Societyâ. They were warned that it is possible for Mr. and Mrs. Sevier to lose those children if they do not pay the woman the fees. Eventually, one day Rill plans to leave with Fern to get back home on the boat. After realizing that there is no other place to go, they were taken back to the Seviers, where they spent the whole rest of their childhood away from home. Growing up without the presence of your parents is harsh, and I could only imagine how those children felt throughout their whole experience. Living and surviving, the children, Rill and Fern, continued their time and childhood through starvation, mistreatment and abuse.
Journal Entry #3
In the meantime I, Avery Stafford seemed to be a successful lawyer and a senator's daughter in the present day Aiken, South Carolina. You could say I live a quite wealthy life with my husband just as fortunate. I had an old grandmother that was oftenly suffering from dementia. One evening a resident had mistaken my grandmotherâs jewelry when I visited the local nursing home with my father for a political event. I encountered the elderly woman, whose name was May, when the nursing staff later informed me and she came to return the item of my grandmother. I continue visiting May periodically as I, soon start to sense some sort of connection. A feeling that she may have some link with my grandmother Judy. The more I began chatting with May, the more I became very eager to uncover this strange possible bondage I started piecing together. After searching for old album books and photos of my grandma, I stumbled upon this number attached to one of the photoâs covers. Within my curiosity, I dial the number and a man that goes by the name of Trent answers the phone. He wasnât quite understanding my crisis, but after briefly talking and explaining my situation, he agreed to lend me the documents of my grandma, Judy. Finally after meeting with Trent, he displays some documents and adoption papers from the certificate of another individual, not my grandmother. With the misconception I closely read the name of a child âShad Frossâ from around 1939.
Journal Entry #4
Convincingly enough, comes to find out that I discover that my grandma Judy and May really were the long lost sister after these countless numbers of years without seeing each other. It later reveals that âShad Frossâ was also one of the siblings of May and my grandma Judy after all. After recently talking to May, who was adopted out of Georgia from Tannâs Tennessee Childrenâs Home society. It was just before the scandal became known throughout the society. Eventually throughout time her adoptive mother became ill and soon passed. At the time May herself did not personally know her real, biological family background. However, May was capable of tracing her mother learning and discovering herself the story of her birth and that she had three other siblings. Mayâs birth mother, was 19 years old and working in Memphis. She had recorded and printed Mayâs birth with her father for about six months. Although when she discovered she was pregnant, she learned that he wanted nothing more to do with her and their baby. Her mother had set her up for adoption. Like me, May was also eager to determine who her real family was, and she herself pieced this puzzle together to unfold and discover her family that was broken and muddled into pieces. Through devastating, unbelievable, and tragic events, this family was now full-circled. Reuniting once again through thick and thin until the end, the family stayed substantial. Their stories describe the terrors of neglect, abuse and survival of childhood.

Personal Narrative
Hello readers, my name is Avery Stafford and my life story is narrated and told by the author, Lisa Wingate. This book bases on one of my most fabled real-life discoveries. Her book describes the story of my family. The lost and found; an unbelievable, heartbreaking tale about love and the count of secrets. In this novel it explains the shocking life situations that intermittently occur within this small-circled world. Gradually, this heartbreaking backstory is revealed when I soon uncover the truth about my situation and how it completely changed my family's trajectory. When we uncover the truth alongside Wingate, and see how my family was affected by this, we switch between fear, hope, and everything in between. Many mixed emotions were brought towards the characters in this story. As I return back home, I stumble upon some unreasonable doubts. It forces me to take a journey through the long-hidden history of my family, along a road that would either lead to sorrow or recovery. I soon start to piece things together, and the secrets begin to unfold. I later meet an elderly woman named May at the local nursing home where my grandmother stays. After visiting May at her nursing home, I discover that she may have some connection with my grandmother, Judy who has dementia, a memory disorder. Anxious to reveal the mystery connection between May and my grandmother, I search through old photo albums of Grandma Judy and discover a phone number. The person behind the phone is later claimed to be the grandson of Trent Turner. I soon learned, with the help of Trent and May, that my grandma Judy was long lost sisters with May! The closing to this shocking discovery was they were finally brought together, reunited after many countless years.

- There are many stages in life. Both positive and negative. No matter how you live, there are going to be many ups and downs that will come your way. But it is altered on how you manipulate it.

Quote #4
âWe plan our days, but we don't control themâ.
- The arrangement of our days does not result into the outcomes we expect. Choices and decisions differ in the heat of the moment. Not in the state of mind.
