To everyone complaining how Green Day didn’t publicly denounce Trump at the halftime show, They got fucking censored.

I know it’s disappointing that they didn’t but they literally have been denouncing Trump and Ice with that song for an incredibly long time. To say that it “wasnt very punk of them to do that”, yall are so ridiculous.

Green day opened the Superbowl. by playing holiday. a specifically anti war and anti fascist song. and then they did WMUWSE and then american idiot. granted, American idiot was slightly censored in the way that green day was 10000% told not to say certain lyrics which. they kind of had to. given literally everything happening with censorship right now. People are so mad that they didn't say a "fuck ice" or "fuck maga" like they are known for doing however comma. 1) the broadcast was delayed so even if they did, they would've been censored anyway (they were scrambling to censor "mindfuck" and also the captions changed "don't want a nation under the new media" to "under the new mania" like. guys. they did what they could). 2) they were opening. they didn't do the half time show, and this wasn't a concert, they were opening for a Latino man and they knew that. they didn't take attention away from him. if they had said something crazy it would've headlined instead of benito's performance because they are whiiiiite. are we not seeing this. "it wasn't political!" they played American idiot and holiday. the song choices were deliberate. are we fucking serious. can you people not read, not even between the lines, but the big gigantic bolded words in front of you????? "they're just another group of rich white men" and these rich white men played American idiot at the super bowl. yes I will defend my anti fascist kings because you people lack the brain capacity to realize what it all means!!!!!!! this was the biggest fuck you to this administration!!!!! green day opening bad bunny half time!!!! the only english benito spoke was god bless America and then proceeded to name all the countries in the Americas. and he had ricky martin up there singing his song abt what colonialism did to hawai'i. no me jodas. I know we all wanted certain lyrics to be there and many are feeling disappointed. Personally I never really expected them to be. I mean, this was not a concert. They were performing as a part of a widely televised event. There are things you just can't get away with...

So let me get this straight... Bad Bunny, a Puerto Rican man did the superbowl halftime show. maga is insanely pissed about it and making a huge fuss, and people are now mad that Green Day did NOT, while performing BEFORE this Puerto Rican man, cause what would have been the biggest headlines grabbing scandal in superbowl history, to protest ICE... YOU'RE ALL MAD THAT THEY DIDN'T TAKE ATTENTION AWAY FROM THE ACTUAL LATINO MAN WHO WAS ALSO DELIVERING A POLITICAL MESSAGE. they were basically opening for him, it was not their place to be scene stealers. They did an amazing job of showing support in a CLASSY way, and honestly, as white people, we need to all learn to know when it's our turn to be in the spotlight, and when it's our turn to just show up and support the people who SHOULD be in the spotlight, because that's what Green Day did today.

I'm not American and haven't seen the whole thing, but I've been following Green Day for longer than many of you have (probably) been alive.

I, of course, don't know what goes on behind the scenes, but I believe they included everything they could get away with. (I mean, just picking that specific song says a lot) And everyone knows the line. It doesn't have to actually be sung for it to be there. I think everyone listening still heard it.

And 'MAGA' might not even have been the word that they were asked to cut....
