A repost from my TikTok! This is Jennika, my pink bellied sideneck turtle. :3 She was rescued from an abandoned apartment and nursed back from neglect, and now she reigns supreme over the tetras and the minnows.

Additional thoughts:

I really like drawing/writing about Donnie getting really hurt physically. While I believe all of the 2012 turtles and Splinter know basic first aid — and Splinter for some reason knows healing magic ( or "mantras" )— I still believe that Donatello is the only one who has extensive medical knowledge and can perform surgery and treat their mutant physiology, soooo it just really scratches my brain to imagine what might happen to Donnie if he got too hurt to treat himself, since his brothers surely wouldn't be able to treat him themselves.

That also makes me think about Mutant Apocalypse Donbot in the series, is the only reason why his mind was transferred to Metalhead 2 because Raph wasn't able to treat him after his amnesia? Donbot says his original body was destroyed, which could either mean Donatello immediately died after the mutant bomb explosion, or he held on for a little longer.

While if Donnie did die immediately after the bomb there was nothing anybody could do, what if there was something that could be done? Let's say, a possible cracked shell?

Cracked shells can be lethal, but they are not always a death sentence to a turtle depending on the severity, but if they aren't treated, a turtle will bleed out or die of infection. That's to say what if after the explosion, Donnie was severely injured but could have been treated, but Raph was in almost as bad shape, and couldn't treat his brother, which is what led to Donnie's death? The angst is just so good

While Donbot doesn't seem to have any issues with the fact that the original Donatello is dead does he ever wonder what could have been if the original Donatello was treated?

Did he even try to treat the original Donatello? He seems to imply that he was already cybernetically linked when Donatello died, rather than consciously uploading his consciousness because he knew he would die, so is it fair to assume that maybe he tried to save himself— sort of like in the comics— but there was nothing that could be done? And if that wasn't possible, would he ever resent Raph? Maybe not forever, but right away? I mean imagine being the only decent doctor in your family, you save their shells for years, but when you really need it, and not a dislocated shoulder, or a sprained wrist, but really need medical help, there's no one there for you?

The pillow-shaped object here used to be the phone’s battery. It’s not a battery anymore. Now it’s a balloon full of corrosive, pyrophoric chemicals and hydrogen gas and it’s one puncture away from burning your house down. I am 100% serious. You should be scared to touch it.

But you gotta touch it, because you gotta get it out of your house before the pressure builds up to the point where the balloon pops. This isn’t going to happen soon – there is no need to panic – but it will happen eventually.

And, indeed, it doesn’t go in the ordinary trash. You put this in the ordinary trash and you’re gonna set the garbage truck on fire. Don’t do that to the garbage collectors, their job is hard enough already.

The first thing you need to do is get a fireproof container. The most common household item that qualifies as a fireproof container is a cast-iron cookpot with a cast-iron lid – often sold as a “Dutch oven.” Any other cooking container that’s unreactive, has a very high melting point, and has a lid made of the same materials will also work: enameled or stainless steel, Pyrex with glass lid, etc.

However: Do not use a pot with a PTFE-based non-stick coating. If the battery does explode, the fire will probably be hot enough to degrade a PTFE coating, producing toxic smoke. (Not that you should breathe the smoke from the battery fire either, but PTFE breakdown products are worse.) Do not use a pot made of aluminium or copper. The fire might even get hot enough to melt those.

Whatever container you use, you might have to throw away along with the phone, so don’t use your good Dutch oven for this. Go to a thrift store and buy a cheap one.

Once you have the fireproof container:

Gently pick up the phone and put it in the fireproof container. If possible, gently tape the phone to the bottom of the container to prevent it from bouncing around. Don’t put any padding in there, that’ll just make a fire worse if it does happen. Put the lid on and tape it shut.

Put a label on the container, something like “DEFECTIVE LI-ION BATTERY – FIRE HAZARD”.

It is now reasonably safe to move the container around. However, if the battery does explode, the container is very likely to leak smoke and get hot, so keep it in a well-ventilated area and away from things that will be damaged by heat. Don’t leave it exposed to the weather, either.

You need to find either a hazardous waste disposal site, or an e-waste recycler that will accept defective Li-ion batteries. I can’t help with that because I have no idea where you live.

However, your local fire department, if you have one, will probably be happy to help. Call their non-emergency number. Nothing is on fire yet, so this isn’t an emergency, but things that can easily start a fire are still within the fire department’s responsibilities. Tell them you have a phone with a bulging lithium-ion battery, you put it in a fireproof container, and you want to know how to dispose of it safely.

If the fire department tries to tell you this isn’t dangerous or it’s okay to throw it out in the regular trash (with or without fireproof container), hang up on them and write a cranky letter to your local government representatives, then keep looking for a proper disposal site.

I feel like in all the fanworks I see about the SAINW aftermath, or works about that miniarc in general, it assumes the DamiyoSon/Draco hybrid purposefully sent the turtles to their destinations

Which actually doesn’t make a lot of sense, since Donnie was the one to objectively get the worst experience and not Leo, the turtle the guy *actually* had beef with

I was rewatching it with a friend, and I think their destinations weren’t nearly so intentional. It was probably just based on their last thoughts/actions before the attack?

Mikey’s gushing about comics and superheroes? He gets sent to the superhero dimension.

Raph’s working on his motorcycle? He gets sent to the planet-racing competition.

Donnie’s talking to April about time travel? He gets sent to another timeline.

Leo’s training, and probably with the sword Usagi got him for Christmas? He’s sent to Usagi’s world.

Leonardo struggling through his PTSD and guilt over failing his family.

I remember as a kid being very confused as to why Leo was acting so brooding and mean during the first half of season four since I missed the finale of season 3 growing up. It was only when I got older and just recently rewatching these scenes to keep me in the TMNT mood, did I realize the real reason behind Leo’s anger and attitude.

And to put this in context for the era, the creators were clearly against the Iraq war (season 3/4’s arc where Triceratons invade and people become paranoid about aliens along with the introduction of Bishop can easily be read as a metaphor for post 9/11 America but that’s a whole other post). However, they knew that kids would have parents and older siblings coming home traumatized from war. By writing these traumatized characters with so much compassion, it gives kids the tools to understand why members of their family might have come back changed.

His presentation is unique to his personality and the circumstances, building on those traits of perfectionism and protective nature he already possessed which—guess what—trauma has a tendency to do.

Leo wasn’t likable in this arc (and news flash, people who have endured trauma often aren’t in various ways as they try to make sense of something so horrific IT LITERALLY CHANGES THE BRAIN)but man, they told such an important aspect of his story.

I also have PTSD and at 15-17 years old, I was also at the peak of my instability. just like Leo, I had also become a totally different person in just a short couple of years. I was also undiagnosed, so most of the time I was dealing with my feelings alone. even when people reached out, I knew they wouldn't understand and that I had to protect myself from being vulnerable. every time I did open up, I almost always regretted it for one reason or another.

case in point, watching Leo struggling with something I also struggled with at his age - something no one our ages should have ever had to struggle with - meant a lot to me then and it means a lot to me now as an adult.

when writers and creative teams take chances like this, they show the kids watching that no matter what they're going through, they are not ever totally alone. You may feel this way, but Leo also feels this way. You're in this together. I wish I had been watching this show during those darker times (didn't hear about it til i was in my 20s), because i'm sure it would have resonated just like it resonates with me now.

Leo traveled to the other side world, through mountains, snow and desert to get help. He did it to protect and serve his family. He did it because he wanted to recognize himself again. PTSD is very sinister; it will convince you the effort isn't worth it.
