Ive been counting down the days until I could reblog this
Just in case
Iām actually going to reblog a thing just because this is really important.
As someone who has epilepsy and used to have several grand mal seizures a day, Iād also like to add that āoffer helpā can range anywhere from keeping the person calm to explaining to them where they are and what they were doing to even just telling them they should sit and rest for a while longer (lack or coordination is common, and it can be hard to walk straight or see clearly).
Itās okay for them to take up to a half hour to fully regain their bearings and sort out what they were doing prior to the seizure. Just answer any questions calmly and be there for support.
If they come around and you start to panic or shake them or ask them what the heck is wrong with them they are going to freak out and panic too.
I cannot stress it enough that this is bad.
If someone has a seizure and they come out of it, please. please stay calm. They are likely disoriented and confused, even if itās only for a minute or two, and you donāt want them panicking on top of that because they can have another seizure as a result.
This is Doris Pollas, the cofounder of the organisation now known as lgbt+ Denmark which by being founded in 1948 is one of the oldest ongoing queer organisation in the world.
Doris lived in a farm in Jutland as a child. She was always butch and figured out she was a lesbian in her teens. When she heard about a club in copenhagen where boys kissed boys and girls kissed girls she went just some months after and it was through that club she started a paper connecting queer people all up to seventies and co founded lgbt+ Denmark.
She is now 97 years old and wishes for every queer person to have an as loving and accepting family as she did.
I donāt see a lot of older gays from my country, so learning about Doris, a masc lesbian, was really nice.
Doris passed ways last summer, aged 101. Hereās the obituary LGBT+ Danmark wrote for her - in English
Doris Pollas 1924-2025: The Last Pioneer Has Passed Away - LGBT+ Danmark

What the heck! As of this reblog, this comic has 21 notes. Apparently a little reblog chain happened, but I donāt really remember noticing. Much higher numbers than my usual 0 or 1. My first taste of success, and I totally missed it!
honestly, if I had a comic take off I wouldnāt mind this one. I still like the joke.
stop fucking using the word psychotic to describe bad behaviour and violence already god fucking damn it
oh my god i'm so tired psychotic does not mean violent it does not mean angry or erratic. it refers to a person suffering from psychosis, a loss of touch with reality that includes hallucinations and/or delusions. psychotic people are not inherently violent and y'all need to understand how much stigma you create when you again and again incorrectly use the word psychotic without even thinking about it
would appreciate if non-psychotic people could reblog this
My sweet summer child
[The wildest part of my labor history class is when we learn about the repression of a strike and another student is like āwait⦠the companies just like, killed strikers? and the police helped? wasnāt that illegal?ā and my professor just like āā¦ā
- @pink_leninade on Twitter]
Companies didnāt just kill and use police, they used US army as well. The largest labor uprising in US history and largest armed uprising since civil war was Blair mountain. I doubt they teach that in schools.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Blair_Mountain
Also, donāt forget ā you know all those armories in your towns and cities?Ā Look around, thereās a good bet that your area has at least one, possibly many.Ā They often look like little medieval fortresses or something.Ā These days, they are often used as public spaces ā they have big open spaces indoors, and they get used for conventions, fairs, performances.Ā They seem like benign civic spaces, donāt they?
They were built in the late 19th and early 20th century specifically because of the labor unrest in the U.S., as a central point in communities from which the National Guard could operate AGAINST labor demonstrations.
Approximately 120 armories were built in New York Ā State from the late eighteenth century Ā to the middle of the twentieth, and most date from the last quarter of the Ā nineteenth century, when the National Guard was Americaās primary domestic Ā peacekeeper during the postāCivil War era of labor-capital unrest.
https://www.sunypress.edu/p-4344-new-yorks-historic-armories.aspx
Since Colonial times, local militia units drilled on village greens or met in rented space, often taverns, hotels or Masonic halls. Even the Civil War did not bring a outcry for more publicly owned military buildings. What did was the intense domestic unrest of the 1870s.
A national recession struck in 1873. Conditions got progressively worse and boiled over in 1877, when a railroad strike in Baltimore triggered strikes and riots across the country. Rebellious workers in St. Louis briefly installed a communist government until troops were sent in.
āMore than anything else, these outbursts initiated the first great wave of armory building in America. Throughout the remainder of the century, urban and industrial tensions between management and labor, immigrant and native and affluent and disadvantaged ebbed and flowed,ā Rossano and Donohue write.
āIt was the time of the Pullman Strike, Homestead Riot, Haymarket Riot ā a time of great labor unrest,ā said Donohue, a historian who is survey and grants director of the historic preservation and museum division of the state Commission on Culture and Tourism, in an interview last week.
City officials and corporate elites, fearing the wrath of the riff-raff, now saw the National Guardās mission as the maintenance of public order. That meant the troops needed their own buildings: secure, comfortable, impressive, impregnable.
https://www.courant.com/news/connecticut/hc-xpm-2007-05-27-0705270184-story.html
You can find out more if you dig around, and especially if you know to start searching for the history of armories along with labor unrest.Ā
Itās nice that they were largely able to be repurposed into civic spaces open to the entire population⦠but itās hard to ever look at them the same way again when you know that THIS is why they were built.
wanting to vent a bit/being worried about privacy will have you posting like i'm dealing with issues and problems. situations have happened to me. and there are emotions i'm experiencing about this. or not. gotta keep 'em on their toes.
