Ta da!! Completed blanket.

I am so, so proud of this. It’s just as I wanted it. The colours work really well. It’s so warm and flowery and perfect. It’s very representative of Demelza; just what I was aiming for.

You know that bit at the beginning of Marvel productions when the pflt-pflt-pflt noise starts and you’re going through the pages of a comic book and it turns into the logo. Yeah, I love that bit. I love it so much I knitted a very self indulgent scarf to remind me of it. Specifically an Avengers scarf because there are too many Marvel heroes to fit onto a single piece of knitwear. Designs are mostly taken from the cinematic version of the characters, but I’ve thrown in a couple of comic book references too.

The technique I used was double knitting which means the image on the front of the scarf is mirrored in reverse colours on the back. If I was a professional art person I would probably write something about the negative image representing the transition of comic book panels to film. Luckily I’m only a humble crafts person and don’t have to do that.

Time to talk about a couple of tools available for free online that are outstanding for fiber arts.

The first for today is a site called Pictaculous, http://www.pictaculous.com/.  It allows you to upload a photo and turn it into a colorway. The first photo is the one I uploaded.  The second is the generated color palette from that photo.  It’s pretty spot on and a pretty darn cool one.  I may have to dye it.

The third is a screen shot from using a site called Stitch Fiddle, https://www.stitchfiddle.com.  I found this one because while I was on vacation, I didn’t have graphing paper with me and I had endless ideas I wanted to start figuring out.  Stitch Fiddle offers knitting, crochet, and embroidery graphing, complete with all the appropriate symbols.  

Wonderfully appropriate for Halloween.  :)  Found on Makezine:
