i understand toddlers cuz if i was just born a couple years ago and someone tried to get me to understand and say words while i'm growing insane amounts of teeth very quickly and painfully i'd be having a temper tantrum on the floor of a department store too
at the point in my life where whenever a kid cries in public i'm like man i get it. carry on
i'd rather see 1000 graffiti penises than 1 product billboard. i'd live in dick city if it meant i could avoid advertisements in my daily life.
@official-boob-posts
canât argue with that

those enormous civilian pickup trucks are so like viscerally disgusting :| now that i have to drive on a regular basis ive been noticing how many of them have a hood thats nearly level with the top of my fucking car or even ABOVE my car. which is just a normal sedan, not particularly short. how the fuck is that road safe
plus because their hoods are so overgrown that means their stupid fucking led headlights that they all fucking have are DIRECTLY level with my eyes. thanks now neither of us can see each other you fucking piece of shit
confusing Odysseus and Orpheus is like confusing a liar and a lyre. send post
Looking back, Nobody found this funny.
I don't just think kink should be "allowed" at pride, I think we should train a huge pack of those puppy mask dudes to bark at all of the floats that have corporate branding on them
You get it
The master's touch...
the slow and the serious
Ive said this before but swear the biggest skill to learn as an adult is how to resist high-pressure sales tactics. You do NOT have to answer questions with anything other than "Sorry I'm not interested." No matter how nice they are or no matter how many follow up questions they ask or even how agitated they get when you stand your ground. Just keep saying I'm not interested. Don't answer their questions. Don't give them an opening to try to push back on your reasons. Be a fucking brick wall of I'm not interested.
When we bought our car, I told Sean to let me handle it. I walked in and said "We have X for a down payment and cannot pay more than Y in monthly payments." My Y number had some leeway, but I didn't mention that.
First thing the sales guy did after I laid down the rules was turn to Sean and go, "What's your number?" And Sean said. "Oh, no, you negotiate with Gayle."
So, strike one for the sales guy. Could not divide and conquer us by implying THE MAN would not surprised at what I laid down.
Sales guy then had to confer with his manager and left us at his desk for several minutes. I have a vague recollection (this was 16 years ago) of Sean and I amusing ourselves doing bits about the other people there to look at cars. I am sure we did not give off the stressed or nervous energy they were hoping for.
Guy comes back. His first offer is fifty dollars a month more than I told him we could pay. I looked at him and said "I gave you our upper limit."
"Well, but what's another 50 bucks a month?"
"Something I can't afford."
He didn't know what to do with my open and unashamed admittal that I had a budget because my money was finite.
He went back to talk to the manager again.
It took two more rounds of "I told you what I can afford" before he finally came back 20 bucks under what I'd stated as my max.
The trick to resisting high-stress sales tactics is doing the math at home, knowing exactly what you can afford, and then walking into the room and stating that number minus 15%. Then refusing to budge from that number. Never, ever, meet then where they want. Always meet them where you want. Because at the end of the day, you can walk away and go somewhere else and say "I told the people at Z what my terms were, and they refused to work with me. Here are my terms. Meet them, and you make a sale today."

iâve spent most of my life in milieus where beauty culture had a muted impact. i currently work with a group of body liberationists who donât wear bras or makeup lol (a statement?? see sara ahmed). but recently iâve been sucked into the vortex of skincare youtubers, media writers, redditors, bloggers, etc. and iâm soooo very interested in this phenomenon (tho only moderately interested in skincare itself). there are such interesting and disturbing parallels to diet culture, a lot of which are obvious. thereâs also a subtler dynamic that iâve been observing, and i and others have named it about diet culture, and iâll call it the âmoderation frame.â
the moderation frame in diet culture gives injunctions like: donât be overly preoccupied with food and diet (cringe! get the dsm!); but donât just eat whatever you feel like eating (the body isnât that trustworthy)/we all know intervention in your instinctive diet and bodyâs processes is needed; have thorough nutritional knowledge but only trust The Credentialed Experts (many of whom are in fact untrustworthy). weâre expected to do quite a bit of work to maintain a certain nutritional state and a certain body status. but the state and status are culturally determined, along with their desirabilityâwithout the baseline assumption that there is only one right way to have a body, there is no point in the quest to attain it. and of course, i am deeply critical of norming the quest to obtain it, bc bodies can in fact be trusted to regulate eating, shape, and size largely on their own. we are intervening in processes that donât need intervention, and the intervention itself is the pointâto keep us distracted, self-hating, and buying.
the analogue in skincare and âanti-agingâ is sth like: donât go overboard (sad! bimbofication!), but obviously you canât just :/ let your skin have wrinkles and spots :/ i think we can all agree thatâs [a horror] to be avoided. and the knowledge these people have (superficial and memed as it is), even lay people, about skin and skincare ingredients? itâs a staggering investment that requires, and so like orthorexia and other EDs where we become encyclopedias of nutrition facts. and dermatologists are some of the worst peddlers of cosmetic skincare bullshit, like many nutrition and medical professionals (particularly if they have influencer status) in the area of food/body.
in both areas, too, it makes sense to be thoughtfulâthat weâre eating enough and eating in ways that support our own bodies; that weâre taking care with skin cancer risk. but whatâs demanded of us as good citizens and consumers in skincare and diet cultures is, again, an anxious preoccupation thatâs based in the assumption that the body canât just be, canât simply be what it is. it has to be controlled and normed and understood âscientificallyâ to that end. itâs all so very rational, right??
weâre all aware of the political underpinnings and implications of these things. awareness of those things is literally my job! and even i get sucked in. i am not immune to propaganda, and neither are you. itâs good to reflect on our investments of time, energy, money, and emotion. i have personally pulled myself out of a week-long skincare-culture hyperfixation quagmire and i wonât be going back!
puritism is so strong, so overwelmingly the norm, that most people dont think anything a person is naturally is acceptable, even people who are otherwise progressive will still pedal the narrative that you have to control your "animal" side with your "human mind." it is straight horseshit, and im glad people are calling the mindset out.
