Texture In Photography. Above are the different types of textures laid onto different portrait and landscape images. The textures that i used varied between tissue paper, newspaper and a scratched negative. I took a phhoto of both the newspaper and tissue but scanned in the negative as i thought that it would become clearer and give a better view on the background image. The last portrait image was taken and edited on my phone. The app has a texture editor that it uses, its a quick and easy way to control the texture strength and it has many types of textures. The controls in photoshop that i used were the move, transform, layer, overlay and mask tools, I had used them before so had control over what i was doing and managed to do it simply. My favourite image is the landscape photo, i am extremely happy with how it turned out as its the one that took me the most time due to scanning. The biggest problem that i had with the images is that the negative needed the holes to be transparent which meant i needed assistance.

  Overall I think that if I were to do this task again I would focus heavily on the pre production to try and get everything from the same distance so that if I were doing it by cutting and sticking I would not have the trouble of size.

I think that this set of images relates to mine in the sense of the way they look for example the black and white and the high contrast. I do not however know what camera he used during this set, whether it was film or digital.  

Indesign Book Project - Book Plan 

I think that there will be a big difference between each image for example the scene will be completely different from the last and may not fit in with it very well but they will all have the recession message behind it.

Marilyn Suriani Photographs- Above is another example of a book layout on Blurb, this unlike the other book has a lot more information which I prefer. It gives an overall summary of the book and the different parts of it. I think that this will be more similar to our book than the previous example. 

At The Harbour- The images above are screenshots of an example that I found on blurb. The image like ours is a photography book. The images in the book are very well set out in terms of what is where for example each photo relates to the one before and after. The thing that I do not like about the book is that there is no text or information about the images and i almost straight away jumps into the pictures without giving any clue of what the book is about. 

PDF- PDF is a shortened version of the name ‘Portable Document Format’. PDF is a file format that is used to represent documents. It is a way of showing a document as a fixed layout for example showing a page with text and images. PDF is a file type made by adobe which is available on a lot of internet pages and computer programs. 

The image above is the image that I took when i went to Piccadilly Circus, it was the only shoot that I had planned correctly. I do not really like the image but as it is a first attempt i am able to go back and work on it. I think that I will be going back and trying this again. 

Problems with first few shoot attempts. I have encountered a few problems in shooting my images for the last 3 times, it has been down to poor planning and research, for example the image above is too show what had happened when I went to Brighton to take my first shoot. The end of the pier where i had planned to take images was closed and no rides were on, I think that i should have researched the times of the rides and when they were on and working, I think that I should have thought about this when going on a windy monday night. The next two times that I went to take photos for my book project I went to Crystal Palace fun fair, once again I should have researched what day it was on and the second time the weather had prevented it from being on. 

I think that the play represented a lot of hard work and structure, the play being based on conflict had been shown well as almost instantly you new what was going to happen, i think that the very realistic costumes also helped this. 

Above is my contact sheet it is made up of my favourite images from the day, we created a contact sheet by opening bridge and selecting the images. We then clicked output in the top right corner and changed the settings on the pdf to change the rows and columns too fit them all in, I added the names and then printed the contact sheet. Another thing that we done in bridge was rate our image, the ratings can be done by holding cmd+(the number you want to rate it). By doing this in bridge it makes it easy to delete and sort your images.

Above are the images that I took in Dartford, the task was to take around 36 photos without deleting and in RAW format, we done this so it was like using a film camera. We had to go to Dartford and take pictures of 'Workers' it meant approaching people and asking to take photo's of them. It was an inconvenience for most people as they were going about their day doing their jobs and did not want to be interrupted this was shown from the first probably 90% that we asked, most people would just say no. In the end I ended up taking pictures of people when they did not know. It made the images look more like mug shots than street documentary images. The two images above were set up and we were allowed too take them, the other images that I took were nowhere near as good and did not work at all. This is not the type of photography that I am into and I think this was shown by the lack of creativity in even the images above. Contact Sheet above.

None of the photos above are images that I have produced, they are images that I am planning to try and get the same effect from. The people in my group are trying also to use long exposure as a way to show modern life. I will be using long exposures to show the different types of entertainment and how it is advertised and displayed in modern life. For example things like fun fairs with big rides and bright lights are reasonably modern and are not what were around in older eras. I will try to take images around London where lights are used as a way of advertising services and attracting customers eye. I am going to need equipment like a tripod and maybe neutral density filter, i will need to use a tripod as i want my images to be still and not blurred, i would also want to use a neutral density filter to keep the lights exposed correctly and not over exposed. 

Above are my contact sheet and test strips, it is good to make test strips first of all so you can decide what exposure to use when creating your real image and contact sheet. (not finished - posted to save) 

Once our 35mm film was in the developing tanks we continued to get the correct amount of developer, stop bath and fixer. We used D76 developer mixed at a ratio of 1:1 (for 1 roll of film in a small tank use 300ml overall, 2 rolls need 600ml overall) we put 150ml of the developer into a measuring tube and then filled it up to the 300ml line with water. Another important thing was the temperature which we made 20-21c. We poured the developer into the developing tank and agitated it every minute for 14minutes. Once this was done we Poured the developer out and put the 300ml of stop bath mix into the developing tank. We left it in the developing tank for 1 minute, 30seconds of this minute was spent agitating. We threw the stop bath away after the minute, we then put 300ml of the fixer mix into the developing tank we had it in the developing tank for 5 minutes agitating for ten seconds every minute. Once we had finished fixing we poured out the liquid and put it under a water wash for around 15-20minutes, after the 15minutes we took it out and agitated it through the wetting agent for 15 seconds. After it had been through the wetting agent we took them out of the spools and put them into the dryer.
