I apologize for getting hyper local but I AM SO PISSED ABOUT WHAT’S GOING ON IN CHICAGO RIGHT NOW.
We’ve been in the streets for weeks. People have been doing the work, building on requests activists have made for YEARS.
And Mayor Lori Lightfoot just spit in our fucking faces.
Chicago is the only major metropolitan area in the US that’s gotten NO concessions from city government from these protests. They completely refuse to listen to us.
There was a city council meeting today. I thought maybe they’d give us fucking something.
Activists have been asking to defund the police. Lori Lightfoot’s refused to entertain it.
Activists have been asking to pass an ordinance called CPAC, short for civilian police accountability council. It would create an elected board that would have hiring and firing power over cops and control the police budget. BLM here ha made it a priority demand.
Lori Lightfoot refuses to pass it, saying vaguely that she has “concerns.”
Young activists have asked to take cops out of schools. It was blocked by a member of the city council, and Lori Lightfoot doesn’t support it.
Fuck, Lori Lightfoot didn’t even make Juneteenth into an official holiday! Like, even the some of the shitty racist aldermen (like Cappleman and Gardiner) figured out that could be an easy political win for them to make them look like they cared about this. It passed through city council easily! But Lori Lightfoot said no because it would “be too expensive.”
When Lightfoot was elected, some people said she’d govern as a ‘progressive.’ She’s black, and queer, and claims to be interested in progress. Hell, she’s been doing media rounds this week, talking about how to combat racism on CNN and on an NBC roundtable!
But Lori Lightfoot was a prosecutor. Lori Lightfoot has close ties to Chicago’s FOP. And even though the cops seem to hate Lori Lightfoot a lot…she still loves them. She always goes on about our “brave officers.” Fuck that.
Lori Lightfoot can fuck off forever.

Reblogging this because the fucking school board (which is not elected, but appointed by the mayor) just voted to keep dangerous cops in public schools.
One of the dickbags who voted to keep cops in schools claimed he’d gotten 30,000 emails that supported getting cops out of schools…but he still wanted to vote for cops to stay.
Lightfoot said during her campaign that she was in favor of an elected school board. She’s been in office over a year and has made no efforts to actually do it.
We need to push all of Chicago city government into Lake Michigan.
