I try to picture me without you but I can't

“You saved my life while doing something that no one else properly wanted to do without flinching. I have every right to thank you, I think.”

“I didn’t want to do it either, but someone had to.” And Tomos had this ability of distancing himself from actual emotions. He could ignore the pain that Stiles was feeling as long as he thought he was doing the right thing. The right thing was saving the rest of his hand by cutting those fingers off.

“ – .. I …. I don’t think I ever properly thanked you.”

“There’s no need to thank me, mate.”

The emissary fell quiet for a moment, letting out a breath. “ .. yeah, I suppose you wouldn’t, would you? Sorry.”

“No, it’s alright mate.” In all honesty, Tomos had spent a lot of his life breezing through. There were several moments where the time seemed to slow, but this was only one of many. 

“ – looking back it seems so fast, yeah. But, living it … – it’s been the longest months of my life.”

“I actually can’t relate to that.” He’d had too many long months in his lifetime already.

“It’s the New Year. Hard to believe that all this shit started back in May.”

“Time always seems to fly, doesn’t it?”

His smile turned a little more warm as he tucked his hands into his pockets and crossed the rooftop to where Tyler stood. “– do you wanna tell me about it?”

Tomos grinned, watching as Chapman moved towards him. “Absolutely,” he replied. “A friend of mine-- Sylvia,” he smiled when he said her name, but it was filled with a kind of sad nostalgia. “She used to always give me grief.” He changed his voice to mimic his old friend. “’You’re such a catch, Tomos. You could have your pick, if you’d stop goofing off.’ I swear, I’d hear that day in and day out. And yet this one time-” He huffed out a laugh. “A gentleman approached her and-- VERY POLITELY, I might add-- asked her for a dance. Can you guess what she did?”

“You look happy…”

“I feel happy, too.”

Chap thought that he’d find Tomos on the roof, lingering in the door way as he watched him with a soft smile, “Don’t think I’ve seen you smile like that before.”

“I just relived a memory from a hundred years ago. One that I- I thought I lost.”

“ – how do I know it’s not gonna kill me? You gonna be my hero if it poisons me?”

“It doesn’t taste like poison, it tastes like fudge. But if it makes you feel any better, I’ll be your hero.”

“I like fudge.”

“Then come try it.”

“ … something reminds me of the whole candy from a stranger lesson. But – the warmth of the desserts astounds me.”

“Can’t poison me.” Tomos replied, popping a truffle into his mouth. “Mmm, it’s got a fudge center.”

“I’m sure he might be able to get Cora to watch him.”

“True. I’ll definitely ask.”

“That too,” was his small comment on Tyler referring to Cora. “Chris might work – Derek, too. But … Derek’s got this .. kid with him now, and I don’t know if he wants to leave him alone.”

“Could ask someone to babysit, if there’s anyone he trusts well enough, but we could ask that blonde fox. Think I heard that she was a cop before all this happened.”

“The only ones of us who are immune are you and Stuart. Well, and Cora, but –” he didn’t want to see Cora sent out.

“But Stuart would drive a stake through my heart if I let her go out.” He knew that wasn’t what Stiles was thinking, but it was true in itself. “What about Chris? Derek? They’ve got more experience with handling weapons, and taking care of themselves.”

“ – that’s what I was thinking, yeah. A handful of us go in there stoked – probably full of walkers. It’d be worth it, though.”

“I think it should be the handful of us that are immune, or trained for fighting. That way if something happens, it’s not necessarily fatal.”
