nine lives || allison + mike

To say Mike was drained was an understatement. When he was a teenager which was ironically only a few years ago, settling down, being engaged and having two kids was not planned. Sure, Rocky hadnāt been planned, but it was different between him and Allison. They were in love and planned to be together forever, especially since he had proposed to her not too long ago. And then she was taken away from him, from her father again, and he was lost. He wasnāt cut out to be a single father again, to two kids that needed both their mother and father. Rocky kept asking questions about when Allison was coming back, and he still couldnāt figure out how to tell him what happened. He was drained, both emotionally and mentally, and he wasnāt sure he could hold it together much longer.Ā
Rocky had easily gone to bed on his own, and after a small struggle, Arrow had finally fallen asleep. Mike was in their⦠his⦠bedroom, sitting on the edge of the bed, shoulders hunched over just about ready to let his emotions out. But dating Allison, after she had revealed what was really going on in the world, had made him more aware of his surroundings. He heard movement from outside in the hallway, slower than Rockyās footsteps when he wanted a drink in the middle of the night. He reached over to his bedside as the footsteps got closer, grabbing the statue that sat there. As the door opened he reached it above his head, ready to toss it at whoever thought theyād get away with breaking in.Ā
The stress and color drained from his face as the words hit his ears, his arm lowering and dropping the statue to the floor with a dull thud.Ā āā¦Allison?ā He questioned, slowly moving towards her, afraid this was a dream. Arms reached out, one going to her waist the other to her face, he let out a breath he didnāt realize he was holding in.Ā āAllison.ā He breathed out in relief, forehead resting against hers.Ā
Honestly, she was proud of him. The fact that heād heard her, been on guard and ready to protect himself- and the children- it brought a warmth to her she knew probably wasnāt normal. The years of having to learn to protect herself and those she cared about, it had rubbed off on Mike and in some ways... She did feel bad. The world sheād aligned herself in ( by birth, not even purposely ), was one that she knew for someone like Mike, it would be terrifying. But, heād understood when theyād gotten attacked those many months ago. He hadnāt ran, despite seeing the danger of the world. Heād stayed by her side when theyād found out she was carrying their daughter.Ā
The statue falling to the ground was almost deafening in the silence of the apartment, part of Allison fearing that the children would hear it and wake up. But no, their heartbeats ( which god, this was weird ) stayed steady in their sleep and she took a step forward when he started towards her. His arms embracing her ever so gently felt like home, it felt so fucking safe. Their foreheads pressing against each other grounded her back to earth in a time where she felt like she was drowning. Whatever was happening.... Sheād be okay, as long as she was with him.Ā āMike.. I love you so much.ā She whispered softly, tears streaming down her face.Ā
