SCHOOL OF THOUGHT EVENT:
I went along to an event in Manchester this week which was showcasing the fruits of labour from a 12 week workshop conducted by some students with some industry experts. The event focused on the ideas behind a project rather than the polished outcome to emphasise that with a  great idea the outcome is bound to be great, rather than dressing up a bad idea in order to try and make it better than it really is. It was really interesting to see some of the outcomes from the project and to think about how I might have tackled the same briefs had I been involved.Â
The opening speech of the event really resonated with me. In the speech the general tone implied that every great idea is actually a really bad idea, with some really great examples shown. The best example by far being the fact that Pedigree have now made a radio channel for dogs for them to listen to when their owners are out - an absolutely fabulous idea when you consider the fact that a large percentage of dogs get very nervous and anxious when their owners leave for extended periods of time. Now this is clearly a crazy idea, but that is what is so great about it - and this is what I believe the point of the speech was. We were encouraged to approach our bosses full of nerves because our ideas were so weird and unreasonable because in this small percentage of meetings is where all of the amazing brands, products and campaigns lie. Definitely something to consider!Â
