Amycus was born on Halloween night in 1952. Exceptional people, his mother used to tell him, always have exceptional births, and so it would be for him. Even so, Amycus has always suspected his life didn’t truly begin for another 2 and a half years.
Was there ever really Amycus without Alecto?
A qualified therapist would probably have terms for what happened. Co-dependency, trauma bonding, anxious attachment. Amycus wouldn’t have listened to any of it. All he knows is that for as long as he can remember, only two people have mattered – him and his sister. It was them against the world, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He began to view Alecto as one half of his own soul.
Amycus has long been stuck in a strange in-between. He loathed his father, yet it didn’t stop him from always doing exactly what the man would have wanted. Excelled at school, formed a circle of like-minded purebloods, graduated and accepted a job in the Minister for Magic’s office. He joined the deatheaters, never complained, and attended boring ball after boring ball looking for a nice pureblood wife.
Now his father is gone, Amycus is head of the Carrow family, and he has no idea what path to pursue, outside of the one which was already laid out for him. It is as if his father is continuing to haunt him from the grave.
Headcannons:
Amycus has always been the spitting image of his father. He hates that face. Hates who he sees every time he looks in the mirror. Hates that every wrinkle and grey hair brings him closer to the only man he has ever loathed. Sometimes he wanders how Alecto can bare to look at him. Of course, he would never forgive her if she ever dared to look away.
Amycus has always been possessive. He would hoard his toys as a child, hiding them away so he wouldn’t have to share, particularly on play dates his parents had arranged for him.
Amycus was in Russia when his father died. When he returned, one of his friends asked if he had known what might happen, if he was just getting out of the way. Amycus never answered. It wasn’t anyone’s business. For anyone who looks too closely, however, it does appear to be a very convenient series of events.
Amycus is a haunted man. It started with dreams, his father’s ghost visiting to shame him, but it has now progressed to voices, figures just out of the corner of his eye. It is worse when he is at the family home. A constant presence, as if a heavy hand is resting on his shoulder. He hasn’t told anyone what he is seeing, scared of what it could mean.
