âTh-thanks. I didnât think itâd be this scary,â Sky admitted quietly once she settled, glancing at both sleeping babies. âI know itâs not going to be easy, but... Bay really made it look easy, didnât he? And I know Amirâs gonna be a natural, and you and Ash one day... Truth be told, I think Rivâs fucked,â she said with a watery laugh.
   âMm, well, he has Chad.â
âEh. I think theyâre both in for a rude awakening...â She paused and lowered her voice conspiratorially, despite them being alone. âDoesnât it worry you, them tryna hide it this much?â
   âItâs early, I guess.â
âStill. I dunno, I just worry Riverâs gonna live in denial until itâs too late. But youâre right; Chadâs pretty level-headed...â
âAnd they have all of us around to help, too. Just like Bay did. Just like you do.â
Sky gave him a grateful smile, though it still cracked at the edges. âYou are... you are gonna be around, arenât you?â
   âOf course.â
âItâs just...â She bit her lip. âI know everyone thinks Iâm oblivious, even Amir, but Iâm not stupid. I know they donât talk anymore, Loch. You donât go from being as close as brothers to the way they are now and that go unnoticed.â
He couldnât face her as she watched him intensely, and he broke eye contact.
â...You havenât even been around to our new place,â she said in a small voice.
Loch winced. âI know. Iâm sorry.â
âDo you... really hate Amir that much?â
âNo. I canât say weâll ever be friends, but, no. I donât hate him... anymore.â
   âBut Asher does?â
â...Ash isnât going to get in the way, Sky. We... have an agreement about it.â
âHonestly, Loch, I donât care what Ashâs problem isâno offence. Donât get me wrong, I like him. But heâs not my brother, Loch. I want the twins to have their uncle. As much as Iâd like Ash to be part of that too, I understand if he canât do it. But... I... I need my big brother.â
   âIâm right here,â Loch croaked.
âYeah, for now. But I want the person that helped raise me see my kids grow up. I want them to know you. Properly. Not just awkwardly forced to be in the same room during family occasions.â
Loch shook his head. âThatâs what I want. I swear.â
   â...Okay.â
He could see she didnât look convinced, even as she offered a weak smile.
âIâll be around,â he said softly. âI promise, Sky. Iâd offer to come over with a meal or something, but... I really canât cook.â
That at least made her laugh. âI donât need food. Just my brother. But, same offer I gave Sylvie. You bring chocolates or cake? All the baby cuddles you could ask for in return.â
He smiled, looking back over the twins. âThat I can do.â
