Sigmund Freud proclaimed: All your sexual hangups are your mother's fault. (paraphrased) 

No one can be neutral regarding another person with a physical disability.  There is an instinctive rejection of anyone who is not physically perfect.  That instinct is enforced by cultural mores, resulting in many types of inhibitions.  However social pressures often dictate following an exception to the rule. Acting contrary to the mores, attraction to the less than perfect can become the solution to strong trained-in sexual inhibitions.  One of those solutions is the attraction to amputees.  But such an attraction is denounced as perverse by the social culture.  Indeed, there are organizations that work to discourage such attraction. Others groups exist to validate the attraction.------
