Love this. So beautiful. And it makes me think of potentiality.

deep breaths and flowers on my desk

whirlwind
There are so many things about art and equity and Asheville that I look forward to sharing on this blog. And photos! That said, right now I am in the midst of a big life change (leaving a long time job), so things are a bit of a whirlwind. I will be posting on a more regular basis starting in August, if not before. I'd like to make this an interesting read for you.
i am not done yet
This is one of my favorite Lucille Clifton poems...
i am not done yet as possible as yeast as imminent as bread a collection of safe habits a collection of cares less certain than i seem more certain than i was a changed changer i continue to continue what i have been most of my lives is where i'm going

One sunny June morning
One sunny June morning with my love, my dog, and a fiddle by the river.
begin
once again looking in
light the flame begin
Max and I spent the day by the river. What bliss.
It was my first swim of the season! The water was chilly, but not too cold. The air was warm with just the right amount of a breeze. Not to mention the gorgeousness of the setting.
Every summer I get manic about getting in my river time in.Β
I'm off to a good start.
In Between
In between holiday weekend visitors, concerts, hikes, and parties I made time for introspection. The quiet moments were precious in their brevity and necessity.
Things are poppin' in the garden.
What a wonderful thing that we can grow such beauty on our little piece of this pretty city.
It feels decadent. And sacred.

Today I saw Anna Deavere Smith perform and it was a profound experience.
Ms. Smith is an actor who has developed a technique of interviewing people and then acting out exactly what they tell her, in their voices. Today she did five pieces, ranging from an Orthodox Jewish woman from New York to the late Governor Ann Richards. She presented each character so convincingly you would swear she was that person.
This video shows part of one of the pieces she did today, the voice of a doctor at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, who Smith interviewed soon after Hurricane Katrina. The doctor shared how the immediate aftermath of the storm forced her to understand racism, her own privilege, and the perspective of the poor on a completely deeper level than she ever had, despite her years of service at Charity Hospital.
It was all I could do to keep from running out of the room sobbing as my own understanding deepened by hearing her story.
Oh, springtime, you slay me.
