When I asked this stranger what the best moment of his life was, he couldn't directly give me an answer. I couldn't blame him, of course. Last night I received an e-mail:
You took a few photos of me yesterday and I promised you I would send you an email about the best moment in my life. That's because it's hard for me to come up with any best moment. Sure there are a few achievements that I've been proud of and moments that have made me feel very happy, but really I think those very best moments might be when I feel really present, in touch with the world around me and in a flow state. If I feel that I'm with people that are meaningful to me all the better. I can remember feeling on top of the world once just walking about with some friends on a sunny Sunday, everything felt right and the people I was with were like brothers to me. I have also felt very happy and in touch with the moment when I've been doing some really cool work, I work as a computer programmer, and when I do something which is both beautiful and technically very sophisticated, it gives me a very satisfying feeling, particularly if it looks and feel simple and pure. I also feel super good when I'm working on a 'form'. I practice tai chi which is a very demanding martial art and when I feel I'm in and part of the form I'm practicing, that bring about a feeling of completeness.
Thinking about it a little more I realize that trying to bring about a more positive life on the whole, I enjoy my life in richer ways all the time, not to diminish past great experiences but there are quite a few things I enjoy.
Hope that's enough of an answer for you.
Cheers."
