“okay,  you’re right.  ortho is badass.”  jo had never thought that she would fall in love with it but here she was,  standing in the o.r. next to an orthopedic goddess,  and absolutely enamored by the specialty.  “and it’s way cooler than peds.  don’t tell alex i said that.”

hey y’all! it’s clearly been ages since i’ve been on here (almost a year?!) but I just graduated college and actually have time for writing for fun. I’d love to get back into things. old threads of course will be discontinued and the blog will get a re-vamp by the end of the week. 

even if the offer was an unexpected one,  it wasn’t one that april was going to refuse.  she smiled brightly at amelia and gave a nod of her head.  “of course i’m willing,  don’t worry about that,”  she agreed easily.  “i just want to make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into,  that’s all.  i’m always happy to help.”

“Frankie, you’re a genius!” Lola shrieked, jumping up and down a few times out of sheer excitement. “That’s perfect. Let’s do it.”

As Frankie pulled out all of the ingredients, Lola looked up a recipe on Pinterest and laid it out in front of them. Each girl took a few steps, creating the batter in record time considering the fact that they were intoxicated. “Mmm,” she hummed as she licked some of the left-over batter. Lola’s eyes drifted to Frankie’s for a moment. “Please finish this,” she pleaded, handing the spoon over. “My hips won’t be happy with me if I do.”

     Frankie rolled her eyes and scoffed, “Your hips wouldn’t notice if ten pounds of batter tried to land on them.” She took the spoon, though, and stuck out her tongue to give it a lick. “It’s good! We should bake more often,” she said quickly before noticing the pun and letting out a soft giggle.

Fiona nodded enthusiastically, “I’d love to.”

Their walk to one of the local coffee places on campus went easy enough. Conversation flowed in and out of college-related topics like whether or not they liked their roommates to what their favorite food days were in the cafe. When they finally arrived, each girl stood quietly while they looked over the menu.

As Fiona got up to order she requested a croissant and a blonde latte. Two treats after not having had anything so special in over a week. Fiona’s family had begun to recover from their monetary dives, though she was more accustomed to cash now and paying her own way outside of her tuition.

She waited for Imogen to order and smiled as the other brunette appeared beside her. It was a beautiful day, 75 with a gentle breeze which helped them decide to sit outside once they had their orders.

“So, how are things?” Fiona asked gently, taking a few bites of her croissant before specifying what she meant. “With Louis, and Natalie? I wanted to reach out a lot over the last year but I just- felt weird. I know that’s not an excuse and I’m sorry for being such a big sissy about just talking to you.” She apologized as her eyes fell to her latte. “We had gotten so good at talking…”

     Imogen reached out to place her hand on Fiona’s arm, letting her know that it was okay. “Please, Fi, don’t worry about it,” she quickly retracted her hand, nervous that Fiona would think weirdly of the touch, “Believe me, I wanted to reach out to you too... more times than I can count. But there’s always something that gets in the way, you know?” The young woman was nervous to talk about her parents, she didn’t want her first conversation with Fiona after months of not talking to turn into something depressing. 

     Hoping that the other woman wouldn’t notice, Imogen changed the subject. “How’s your family doing? Declan and your mom?” She sat quietly with her hands wrapped around her iced latte. To be perfectly honest, Imogen wasn’t really interested in how Declan was post-Degrassi, but it felt too scary to simply ask Fiona about herself, especially not knowing what the status of their friendship was. Just how much would Fiona really want to share? 

     Frankie lay on her best friend’s bed, her nerves tingling all the way up and down her body. Even though she had been on this bed so many times before, it was all different now. The girl knew that if she and Lola took this step, if they decided to be together in the way that they each so badly wanted to, their friendship, their lives, wouldn’t be the same.

Owen’s hands went to her hips on instinct, it’s where they always landed whenever she came up and just kissed him. He sighed against her mouth as he tilted his head to the side to deepen it quickly. He chuckled as he pulled away and looked down at her, his brows furrowed as he shook his head, “What was that for?” he asked, grinning from ear to ear. “Not that I’m complaining. At all.”

     “maybe you should stop stressing out about it and just work on your application then? you can’t get in if you don’t try.”

Lola smiled as Frankie appeared to have enjoyed their final attempt at a high. Relief swelled her features. “Well, this is a sleepover so we should work on something to eat, build a fort, decide if we want to watch rom-coms or something else.” She was beyond excited to continue their evening together, giggles slipping out as they made their way downstairs.

“But here’s the real question. Do we not just…” The pink-haired girl began, leaning into Frankie and raising her eyebrows suggestively. “Start with something sweet? I would KILL for some cupcakes right now. Or brownies. Or cookies & cream brownies."  Quickly the girl began to take stock of what the Hollingsworth’s had. As she sighed dramatically, Lola felt Frankie beside her. “You have to help choose! I can’t do this alone.”

     Frankie followed the other girl’s lead, her feet tripping over themselves as the two trampled down the stairs and into the kitchen. With every giggle that left Lola’s mouth, Frankie found herself blushing and asking herself how one person’s giggle could be so cute. Finally in the kitchen staring at the cupboards, Frankie’s eyebrows lifted in surprise at the suggestion in Lola’s tone. The girl felt her heart drop when she realized that the suggestion was only for sugary foods. What was going on? Why was she feeling so attracted to Lola? They’re friends, that’s all!

     “oh my god, that sounds amazing. yes please!” she offers with a soft giggle. now that guacamole better live up to her expectations. “of course!” she adds. after all, imogen had made her wait in line a lot more tolerable and eating with this girl who was so great at instantly making her smile was a hundred thousand times better than eating alone. and then they’re at the front of the line for the food truck. wow, that had actually managed to go faster than she would have thought when she’d first entered the line. she ordered herself the loaded burrito and then waited for the other girl.
