CONTEXT: (I only have this ss on twitter cuz I didn't copy paste it :v)

How ever . behind closed doors they would sorta js talk to each other . i think initially they genuinley didnt like each other but i imagine one day after a particularly tiring fight they js sat down and ended up Talking (petey talking dm writing) for a really long time. and eventually it js became routine to talk after fighting. sorta the closest thing either had to a friend

during hs peteys alone bc hes hard to get along with and his only family is his shitty dad (his dad isnt a deadbeat in this au . hes js Super negelctful and a bum)

dog mans alone in that basically all of his relationships are surface level . he has a surface level friendly relationship with his peers and hed help them out when asked but he was also lwk ostracized by his peers bc hes half man half dog .

i think at some point dm tells petey he likes him and peteys like woooahhhhhhohohohooohh buddy no way jose (#1 avoider of emotions) and they have kind of an argument abt it . peteys terrified of being vulnerable and dm doesnt understand it at all . i think esp bc petey lets it slip that he likes him too so dms like ok if u like me and i like u then whats the problem . ygwim

petey abrupty moves away the moment they graduate bc of the birth of lil petey but also to get away from his shit ass dad . lil petey is his biological child in this au and his other parent is js someoen petey was fooling aorund w . theyre a deadbeat . so peteys raising lil petey on his own .

he also moves away p soon after his fight w dman wo talking about it so . Theres that.

petey comes back to his hometown around 5 years later to plan his dads funeral (rest in piss old hag 😭😭😭😭😭😭)

hes in kind of a weird mood with his dad passing + funeral planning is gonna take a while so petey js decided to stay for a year or so and enroll lil petey in the local school

when lil petey is walking home from school he stops by a convenience store and this conveninence store is run by none other than dog man . lp and dm hit it off and they hang out whenever lp finishes school . lil petey kinda helps him around the store and sits at his counter and does his homework and dog man gives him little snacks to eat

one day petey decides to js pick up lil petey from school and walk back home w him bc hes got time in his schedule and on the way home lil peteys like papa we gotta stop by and visit my ffiend and peteys like okay BOOM its dog man .

like i said they have a history so its initially kinda awkward but through spending enough time w lil petey theyre close enough to js be friendly and banter kinda except peteys still completely avoiding their argument from before graduation . dm tries to bring it up once or twice but pety shuts it down really fast and dog man dorsnt wnat him to run away (bc he knows it is Fully in character for petey to run away in the face of emotional confrontation) so he doenst press him on it.

i think its rlly jarring for petey to see dm working at a convenience store bc i think petey always sorta placed him on a pedestal. kinda unreachable in a way . i think when they used to have their talks dm told him abt how he wanted to help ppl (so he wanted to work in some field related to that) and he was Very passioante abt it . and i think seeing him be so passionate abt his dream made petey Feel smth. bc atp peteys kinda going through the motions and he has no dreams of his own . so seeing someone talk so passioantely abt smth they wanna do is Very admirable to a part of him .

this iswhy hes surprised to even see dm in their hometown . he had fully believed that dm had left it all behind and was out there being successful .

i think after their fight petey kinda stopped talking to dm and dm Really blamed himself for that 😭😭😭 i think it lwk destroyed a big part of his self esteem esp bc petey was the closest thing he had to a friend so he basically went back to being friendless.

peteys reasoning for not talking to dm was mostly as like a self preservation technique . self isolation and whatnot . distancing himself and making dm not like him before dm can change his mind about liking him . essentially its him wanting to be in control of how dm feels abt him bc hes not used to being liked and it would kill him if dm stopped liking him when hes not ready for it . so he js cuts him off first. hope that makes sense .

so at the point of the aus main stoey they Both think that the other doesnt like them . but they Both like each other. mutual pining essentialy LMMFMFFAAAOOOOOO Im fucking crazy

i do Not know how the dog man becoming dog man event happens in this au. might have js been some kinda fucked up medical experiment that happened to him + kngiht when they were young. I relaly hvae no fucking idea. LOLINGGGGG
