“   freddie — i’m not sure nightly patrols are totally necessary.   ”   honey looked down at the hustle and bustle of the city below them, one hand gripping the strap of her purse.   “   especially since it’s just the two of us, i don’t think there’s too much we can do by ourselves.   ”  she’d agreed to join him mostly because she felt bad, since the others couldn’t make it, and she knew how.. enthusiastic fred could be about the superhero thing. 

“   it seems pretty quiet tonight.   ”

“It always seems quiet before something bad happens!”

“Good point.”

When Fred’s crush on Gogo had initially presented itself, he had decided to wait it out. Perhaps it would pass in time ( after all, she was attractive and interesting qualities which would lead anyone with an interest in the female persuasion to take notice ). However, such emotions had only escalated to the point of distraction. He had found himself equating her with almost every aspect of his day, wondering how she might interpret certain scenarios or react if he said particular things. While he wasn’t generally considered a serious person, the few facets of life to which he dedicated himself with solemnity, like school or his own attempts at comic creation, had been inherently affected.

Finally, Fred had reached the conclusion that he was in dire need of a secondary opinion. He trusted his closest friend group without fail, yet the notion of discussing a potentially paradigm shifting detail to the threads which brought them all together was rather daunting. That was when he had been struck with the perfect person to approach — Jim. Their dynamic was one Fred appreciated, and he was aware of Jim’s lack of sugar coating, which he required in this situation.

    —– “i mean, sure? wait… do you mean full on swimming? because give me a sec and i can call my submarine suit.”

“I’m gonna take that as a compliment.”

As it stands, a true hero was required to fall somewhere on the lawful side of the spectrum; or were they, in the case of vigilantes? Superhero ethics always tended to veer on the more complicated side of things than one might initially suspect ( which lead for excellent moral dilemmas in fiction mediums and less so in reality ). Anyway! Fred preferred to believe he was a servant of the law — an ass-kicking, awesome devotee. If a bit of chaos was required to pull the world back into focus, he was glad to be of service.

❝ That’s the same thing they told Jack an’ you see he never recovered. That’s what happens when you’re gullible. ❞ 

With a concessive wave of his hand, he allowed, ❝ It’s better than your argument that peein’ in the shower is practical. ❞ 

“See — there’s a difference between full submersion in deathly temperatures and sticking your feet in for a sec. You’ve gotta be smart about these things, Jim.” A solemn nod of Fred’s head was given in dutiful remembrance.

Although, granted, the fictitious headline was almost painfully accurate. In spite of any reservations Fred may have harbored, attempting to surf down the water slide connected to the pool in his backyard had seemed too good of an opportunity to pass up — and he needed Jim as a witness whether he succeeded or not. If his mission ended in triumph, he would require Jim’s backup to prove it. On the slight chance that fate took a different turn, he would need Jim to call an ambulance ( or at least fetch the first-aid kit from Heathcliff ).

“It really, really didn’t.”

Creating an even more high more tech version of Hiro’s suit ( one more akin to Iron Man, if they were citing sources ) had seemed like an excellent idea, even doable. The task might have appeared daunting initially, especially as Fred and Hiro sat and actually looked at the potential schematics, yet not impossible. After all, Hiro was a genius, and he was there for moral support, as well as to hand tools over when required. In the midst of his anticipation, he had gone as far as to prepare a number of sketches, rife with details on how they might design their creation and even modify it once the base was completed. They had performed research, given the project hours of thought — how could they fail to succeed?
